But can or will that data be used for apportioning congressional seats? Or is only Census data used for that?

Pretty much everyone in Washington, D.C. is terrified that the propaganda figure of 11 million illegals will be blown-up.

The real number may be closer to 60 million.

We all, in a small way, can make the census less meaningful. The only question you should answer is how many people reside in your home. If you are a chosen minority living in a white neighborhood, put only that race down. Nationality is being used to integrate neighborhoods under Democrats. Tell your neighbors not to respond to a census employee who will try to get information about you. Refuse to participate in the American Community Survey. Why should the government know about how many toilets in my house, but not want to know about my citizenship.

The video of Trump and Barr announcing this EO was great.
Barr not only provided the legal argument that SCOTUS effectively held that they could put it on the Census if they could re-litigate it in time, but that this alternative method would yield better more accurate results.

"Trump says he’s devised another path to the same information

Theoretically this information could be fast-tracked to take another shot at getting the citizenship question put back on the census, not to mention a number of other scenarios. Either way, the Trump administration would have the information first.

Just asking the question is unreliable.

Our governments know how many citizens there are from birth and death certificates and naturalization documents.

I can easily attach a photocopy of a certified birth certificate of mine to the census form.

I have a valid passport. I still live at the address it was mailed to.

The federal government knows my Social Security number, my name and my address and a whole lot more.

I’m registered to vote at my address.

The federal government even knows about my Obamaphone.

Since Elizabeth Warren might become President and impose direct wealth taxation, the US government also needs to know the total number of inhabitants of each state.

I think POTUS has been masterful at having this theme change at least once a day, this whole week. The MSM is tired of going after the issue, always being “out-scooped” by someone else. If he changes his tune on this every few hours, no one will know how it ends up. Very shrewd, and rather entertaining, IMHO.

The federal government could figure out how many illegals over age 5 are in this country by also using cell phone company and school records.

Almost all working age ilicitos probably have a cell phone on them.

The Constitution requires the census/enumeration be done according to laws set by Congress.

Do these laws allow for Trump’s methods? I do not know.

The best way is to have people attach proof of citizenship to their forms.

And the good part is that there shouldn’t be any lawsuits challenging this order, because the President has every right to order the Federal departments he is head of, to provide him with information upon request. And the information he is requesting isn’t of an illegal nature.

Just put it on the form. What can SCOTUS do about it?

I think a lot of these comments are way off base. The census drives the apportionment process and DOESN’T DISTINGUISH between citizens and non-citizens. It never has. Congressional seats are apportioned by total population.
Trump is playing the long game. Whether part of the Census or not the count of illegal aliens will only serve to spur public opinion and action by Congress to change this process.
Those who believe that apportionment should be according to citizen population are maybe right, but that is not the current law IMHO.
