China is responsible for 90 percent of the vitamin (C) consumed by Americans, 78 percent of the tilapia, 70 percent of the apple juice, 50 percent of the cod, 43 percent of the processed mushrooms and 23 percent of the garlic.
VERY interesting.
The garlic I knew about (am surprised the % is not higher), the tilapia, sure, and maybe even the apple juice (heck, I’ll bet WalMart & Aldi make up half of the 70%). The cod is a bit of a surprise (I guess those Chinese fishermen really ARE everywhere!), and maybe the shrooms. But, 90% of the Vitamin C? What happened to the US Citrus industry?! And, for that matter, I almost never see China as a source for pineapple, grapefruit, etc. Is that 90% (other than the apple juice) all supplements of some sort?
We also import lots of processed pork from China, but, I’d think that’s taking a hit now, what with most of their pigs dying of their pig plague — unless they are sending diseased meat — likely?
