They were this way in the 1960s when I was young. LBJ and the Kennedy associates outright couldn't tolerate each other. Dixiecrats jeered at Sammy Davis Jr. when Frank Sinatra showed up with him in DC. Chicago's Mayor Daley yelled anti-Semitic slurs at the podium while the moderate Abraham Ribicoff was speaking at the 1968 convention. And lots more. Mainly Dixiecrats vs. Northeast leftists.
