Attorney General Barr Won't Recuse Himself From New York Case Against Epstein: Official

U.S. Attorney General William Barr will not recuse himself from involvement in the new indictment unveiled this week by federal prosecutors in Manhattan charging financier Jeffrey Epstein with sex trafficking, a Justice Department official said Tuesday.

The official added, however, that Barr has been and will remain recused from overseeing the department's review into how federal prosecutors in Florida, including now-Labor Secretary Alex Acosta, previously reached a plea deal with Epstein that has since come under scrutiny as being too lenient.

Atty Gen Barr recused himself from the Florida case for absolutely legitimate reasons based on a simple and routine conflict check.

People do realize how important it is for a lawyer to avoid conflicts of interest.

People also do not seem to realize that every one of Mueller’s team of lawyers was barred from accepting the job based on conflicts of interest- especially Mueller himself.

The jobs should never have been offered to them by Mueller and the individual lawyers were obligated to decline to accept the offer.

All should be disbarred for this misconduct

“Again, Trump has “hired someone” who has skeletons in his closet.”

A monumentally inane statement illustrating you total and complete lack of understanding of this specific situation and the recusal process in general.

Being a Presidential candidate provides one cover to scream political persecution when indicted on sex abuse charges.

There have been some recent developments, that may have contributed to renewed interest in Epstein.

A long-running civil suit against him by victims was finally settled several months ago.

Mike Cernovich won a court battle to have thousands of pages of documents released - just days before Epstein’s arrest.

On 30 June, Democrat-appointed Judge Christopher F. Droney on the Second Circuit Court (which has jurisdiction over cases in New York) vacated his seat and goes into senior status. That is the decisive vacancy that can enable President Trump and Mitch McConnell to flip that Court to majority Republican-appointees.

Always amused at these recusal threads.

Epstein hired a slew, a contingent of attorneys - GOP and Dem -- precisely because he knew it would force recusals no matter who became President (which is how much foresight this Epstein psycopath had, to hire people who told him to bring in a GOP white-shoe firm like Kirkland Ellis on the chance Obama OR Hillary loses down the road - wow).

Recusals are often believed (but no proof) to take the pressure off the Defendant because the dude who recused now doesn't 'need the win' to maintain public face.

But the deputy mandarin who inherits the recusal still does 'need the win', in my opinion, particularly if it's an up-and-comer. Which will make it interesting to see who at DOJ gets the Florida case.

Now for the FReepers getting wound about the Florida case -- man, that one is an amorphous thing that's going to be very hard to prove, unless someone who was judicial or prosecutorial comes right out and says, "oh Epstein had the goods on me so he walked". Not happening.

No that case is strictly about the MSM using OPR to ruin the people who worked on it -- nothing more, nothing less. Might cost Acosta his job, but if it does, it better cost Manhattan District Attorney Cyrus Vance Jr his job too.

Barr had best kick Comey’s daughter off the prosecution team.

It appears Mike Cernovich is disappointed with the way sentencing is going. I think he was trying for Clinton, but the swamp will always protect the Clintons.

It’s beginning to look like there’s no one in DC that doesn’t have skeletons in their closet and unfortunately,

I agree with this. It seems stepping off of a plane in DC corrupts people. It is why our representatives stop representing the people who elected them once they get to DC.

I'm not disputing Barr's recusal, only the notion that it is a skeleton in his closet.

My point was that his recusal was for his work at the law firm, not any work for Epstein.

Looks like we are headed ‘nuclear war’ and M.A.D - mutually assured destruction - with this Epstein affair.

Let the chips fall where they may.

Thank you for laying that out clearly for people.

I also believe that we will find out that what is going on with Epstein right now was all started by Jeff Sessions. Sessions is the guy that got the ball rolling.

The question is what percentage of all his hires have turned out bad. 25 % is probably about as good as possible. IMHO.

The chips will fall in our disadvantage because Hillary was never locked up as she deserved to be. Allow evil to go free and it will bite you in the azz in the end.

Trump sent Sessions packing eight months ago.

What's your proof?

Gorsuch is conservative, period. Only brain dead imbeciles would think otherwise, and only because they read the headlines and let the media tell them how to think.

thank you. I have read a few of his dissents and find them to be persuasive and well-written and entirely consistent with and supportive of a conservative philosophy.
