And We Have Our First 2020 Democratic Loser...And It's Not John Hickenlooper

Well, it looks like we’ll have our first official drop out for the 2020 season this afternoon. Rep. Eric Swalwell (D-CA), who ran on gun confiscation, is reportedly deciding to exit the race for the Democratic nomination and plans to run for re-election to his House seat in deep blue California instead. Yeah, real shocker that running on an unconstitutional gun control initiative, among many other things, didn’t help. Also, no one knows who the hell he is. He made a clown of himself in the first debate, drawing attention to himself for all the wrong reasons. Simply put, there are other Democrats running for the nomination that are better at this than he is and he wasn’t going anywhere to start. He’s also a Russian collusion myth peddler. The rumblings of a possible drop out were heard yesterday when he decided to canceled campaign events in New Hampshire (via The Hill):

Rep. Eric Swalwell (D-Calif.) will hold a press conference Monday afternoon amid speculation that he may be dropping out of the Democratic primary contest.

The news conference at his Dublin, Calif., headquarters is scheduled for 4 p.m. EDT, his campaign said, though it did not provide details on what Swalwell planned to address.

Swalwell announced his campaign for the White House in April but has struggled to gain traction. Speculation has swirled in recent days that the California congressman could be preparing to exit the primary.

Most public polls show him in the low single digits or, in some cases, not registering at all. And while he met the polling threshold to qualify for the first set of primary debates, he could face trouble in the fall, when the bar for participation will be raised.

Last week, he abruptly canceled two days of campaign events in New Hampshire, further stoking rumors of an impending exit.

At first, it appeared that former Colorado Gov. John Hickenlooper would be the first 2020 loser, given his dismal polling numbers, his lack of money (he said to be out by the end of the month, and his top aides telling him he should’ve backed out last month. It looks like Swalwell will be the first.

NEWS: Eric Swalwell plans to drop out of the presidential race and seek reelection to the House, according to a Capitol Hill source familiar with his intentions. An announcement is expected later today in Swalwell’s district in the East Bay area outside San Francisco.— Mark Z. Barabak (@markzbarabak) July 8, 2019

Swalwell ran on gun confiscation, preventing people from being able to "hoard" more than 200 rounds of ammo, and jailing the gun owners who didn't turn in the newly banned guns. And that was AFTER he said he would nuke gun owners if a war broke out over the laws. https://t.co/dvyUvIMU4g— Julio Rosas (@Julio_Rosas11) July 8, 2019

UPDATE: He's Out:

Rep. Eric Swalwell (D-Calif.) is dropping out of the 2020 Democratic presidential primary, according to a House Democratic lawmaker close to the congressman.

Swalwell is expected to make a formal announcement at a press conference this afternoon.

[...]

The Los Angeles Times reported on Monday that Swalwell, who is a close ally of Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) and a member of the House Intelligence Committee, is expected to announce he will launch a reelection bid for his fifth term in the lower chamber.

Now his supporter is free to endorse another candidate.

I’d rather have a SWELL WALL than a Swalwell!

It could come down to the last man standing.

This field will lose a lot of people , perhaps even before Iowa and New Hampshire. How can people such as John Delaney and Andrew Yang and Marianne Williamson raise any serious money to stay in the race?

This could evolve into something such as “Survivor” where we see candidates”voted out” or dropping out, one by one.

It's not good to have any of them drop out just yet.

The longer the Democrats stay fragmented, and the smaller the pieces, the better.

I heard the rich dude Tom Steyer is joining the race, and if so, that at least makes up for this premature loss.

Pitiful putz finally wakes up from his nappy and delusions of grandure.

You're right but to be fair, the same thing happened during the GOP primary race when there were 18 candidates, all of whom dropped out leaving Trump the last man standing.

But it seems that there are more clowns in the democRATic field that don't have any business being in the race than were in the GOP field in 2016.

All is ego and vanity for the hangers-on. They're presidential material in their own minds but not in the electorate's.

DEMOCRATS
Eric Swalwell to drop out of presidential race today

He must have reached his goal on political contributions.
Now it's time to get out before he has to waste it on actual campaign expenses.

No sense over doing it.

He's probably pulled in enough money to cover his vacations and party expenses for a couple of years.

We need to keep Marianne Williamson in this thing. She’s awesome. She’s like a Lorraine Newman character on acid. Look at the colors.

He’s been a loser all his life. That’s why he’s in congress instead of making big bucks practicing law. He couldn’t even make it working slip and fall cases in California’s lucrative workers’ comp industry.

I hope Hickenlooper stays in and spends all his money and then some.

He would probably be the Dems best Senate candidate against Cory Gardner.
