Austin Goes from Harmlessly Weird to Dangerously Stupid by Legalizing Camping on City Streets
PJ media ^ | 07/02/2019 | Bryan Preston

Austin has long been the weird, liberal capital of Texas. The rest of Texas just sort of shrugs and puts up with it. Austin is quirky. Austin is odd. Austin lives in its own little world. Austin is also home to some of the best live music joints anywhere and you have to work pretty hard to find a bad restaurant in the city, so it’s not without its charms. The joke about Austin is that it’s nice because it's so close to Texas (its the capital, a deep blue dot surrounded by a vast red sea). Austin is like that oddball cousin we all have. He’s there. He picks his nose and argues with light posts. But he’s nice and basically no threat to anyone, so whaddyagonnado?

Some conservatives should pitch tents in front the homes of the mayor and the city counsel members. Barbecue all night, play loud Charlie Daniels and David Allan Coe music all hours, drink Southern Comfort and leave the empties on his lawn, after you piss there.

When I was an undergrad on THE 40 ACRES long ago, the Austin city fathers were DUNCES. - I see that the city fathers have learned NADA in 50+ years.

Where they vote for the same far left wing crap that they fled California to escape.

Exactly. It’s like living through one of those biblical plagues of grasshoppers.

"AUSTIN is brutal in the summertime....HOT and extremely humid...I know I lived there for awhile!!!"

Honeychile, you don't know hot and extremely humid if you think the Austin/San Antonio fits the bill. Houston is worse than either by a lot, and Baton Rouge, Louisiana beats'em all. I'm now in San Antonio, and lived in both Houston and Baton Rouge. "It's not the heat, it's the humidity".

you have to work pretty hard to find a bad restaurant in the city,

I remember once on a business trip to Austin that I skipped breakfast, lunch was provided, and so I had my whole day's per diem for dinner so I asked about a good steak place, being in Texas and all. They recommended a place and I ordered a T-bone (medium rare) and it was...disappointing. Oh well.

The liberals in Austin were already keeping it weird when I was a teen in the late 60’s-and when I was living outside SA, going to college in the early 70’s, my friends and I would go to Austin on weekends sometimes to go to the bars, listen to the music and look at the weird people-all tourist attractions.

There were bumper stickers for sale in the head shops there that said ‘keep Austin weird” with a pot leaf on them-and of course no trip to Austin was complete without a weekend afternoon visit to Barton Springs-and the clothing optional swimming hole called Hippie Hollow-where you could mingle with the unclothed and stoned bathers-and buy a joint or two to smoke from one of several vendors if you were so inclined-it was always an interesting trip-pun intended...

The homeless stuff does not surprise me-it was bound to happen sooner or later-but we really should get a petition together to get gov Abbot to move the capitol city designation elsewhere in the state-either that or put a moat around the state capitol and other state govt buildings to keep the homeless from camping there...

In ‘67 I moved from 20% humidity in western Kansas to Houston/Clear Lake City in August. Thought I would have to fold my tent and retreat. Took me a long time to adjust. Lived there 42 years before escaping.

I remember the pod people fiasco they had in Tucson a few years ago. The lead actor this give homeless people plywood boxes to sleep in and put them all over the city sidewalks. It took two years to get rid of them end it only happened because all of the downtown business owners ready to lynch the dumb SOB then let them do it.

Austin may be weirder (I know the place well), but Dallas, Houston, and San Antonio are not what I call bastions of conservatism.

Which of these places will be the first hit by an epidemic caused by allowing their streets to be used as a toilet? So, unhygenic, gross and disgusting.
