It has been averred that Throughout his military career, Alexander won every battle that he personally commanded. Donald J. Trump, on the other hand, has made billions, lost and owed billions, made more billions, won the Presidency against overwhelming odds, and has and is battling Democrats, the Establishment, and foreign powers on multiple fronts, with wins and losses.
A Fox commentator on evaluating Trump's gambit of a possible meeting with Kim at the DMZ said something along the lines of: It is the sign of a great leader that he is willing to risk a great loss in pursuit of a great gain. Had it not panned out in the actual meeting it would have been an embarrassing loss for Trump. Fortunately for all, it did.
I am not an expert on Alexander, but I think it is safe to say that Alexander risked defeat in many of his battles en route to his conquest of much of what was then the known world, but he did win those battles and got far into the Subcontinent.
We'll eventually learn if Trump will cross his Indus, but, Lordy, Lordy, the ride/war is great fun to watch as it's passing!
To the point, history might well conclude that the DMZ Meeting was Trump's Gordian Knot moment. That is, as legend holds, Alexander sliced the knot with his sword in order to be the one who would be destined to become ruler of all of Asia, Trump's stepping into North Korea might portend his solving of the multitude of hitherto intractable foreign and domestic problems with which he is now dealing.

When Alexander saw the breadth of his domain, he wept for there were no more worlds to conquer.”
That doesn't sound like the Alexander the Great I remember in history class.
Conquer something and then we can start with the Alexander comparisons. The President talks a great game and has made significant strides in some areas but has managed to bring few things to conclusion.
Dude, the Revolutionary War took longer than Trump’s had so far, and the British were pikers compared to the uniparty.
Patience, grasshopper.
I’m good with Donald the Great, but I hope he makes better provision for his succession. Otherwise, we’ll have a power vacuum that will result in the equivalent of the “Wars of the Diadochi.”

I don’t think he was implying President Trump was going to war to conquer the world.
Now as far as his promise to build a wall. If President Trump was in fact the Emperor of the world, the wall would have been built by now. He is not. He is the Chief Executive of the Executive Branch. There are two other branches of our government, the legislature and the courts.
Now please explain just how President Trump could do more to meet his promise then he has done.
It is the Legislature and the Courts that are blocking all attempts to control our borders, not President Trumps willingness to do so.
That doesn’t sound like the Alexander the Great I remember in history class.
...
It sounds like an extremely pessimistic FReeper.
Well, Alexander didnt have the problem of his own generals conspiring against him. And if he did, they were dispatched.
Trump cant do that.
You should be cautioning patience to those who are already equating Trump with Alexander.
I prefer to compare President Trump to King Cyrus.
The Bible says that God raised up King Cyrus for Israel. I believe he raised up President Trump for America.
I prefer the “Trump as Cyrus” meme myself....
There are a few--very few fortunately--Freepers who are so negative and whiny they would suck the life out of any party.
Caution can be useful. But negativity is destructive.
As an aside, I have worked in some very successful companies in my career...and in some very successful groups within those successful companies. Negative people were always weeded out (as in fired) because they had no vision, couldn't see (or refused to believe in) success, and complained every step of the way about endeavors to achieve it.
Negative people are dead and angry inside and seek to spread disease that to others.
I'm not accusing anyone here of being negative, but, if the shoe fits, wear it...and consider changing your outlook on life.
I’d rather Trump be a winner like Genghis Khan.
- With the largest Empire in History, Genghis died as the undefeated All-time World Champion.
- Set up a system that thrived and expanded even after his death. (The Mongol empire lasted for nearly 200 years).
I hope that younger people learn from Trump and follow in his footsteps just like the sons and grandsons of Genghis Khan.
Just ignore FR’s resident Doodle troll. Eyeore can’t help it.
Probably because he thought the world was flat, he assumed he’d conquered the whole world. Little did he know.
On that, we agree?
That said, I was merely responding to an article, an analogy, an allegory that compared Trump to Alexander the Great.
The analogy does not fit.
Conquer something and then we can start with the Alexander comparisons. The President talks a great game and has made significant strides in some areas but has managed to bring few things to conclusion.

Perhaps the most important trait of Alexander to keep in mind is his form of governance of conquered countries. Once conquered, he allowed the conquered to self-govern themselves, after swearing allegiance to him of course . He also left some of his troops behind to ensure his conditions were followed. Kind of a Reagan form of trust but verify.
He has failed
On his last day in office and the new President is sworn in and the border remains unsecured I will admit he failed on that one promise. Until then, he has not failed.
