>>>terrible law, but here’s what they SHOULD pass, namely Federal legislation that makes social media platforms subject to liability (with treble damages for punishment) from anyone who believes they were censored for their political views

Would that apply to zots on Free Republic?

Yours is a far better option.

If you allow these companies to be sued because x threatens y on their platform, they won’t allow ANY speech, which then reverts power to the legacy Hoax News media.

Why another ‘law’ telling us what or what we cannot do or say? Are they going to go after ‘russia times’ for their leanings ? Folks choose what websites to visit, comment on or communicate with. If a site like google, facebook is not to their liking there are many others to use. The angst against these censoring leftist sites is getting equivelant to purposely going out, buying a ‘rolling stone’ and then complaining how butthurt you are by the content.

All this law would do is make a bad situation worse, and increase censorship.

True, since it would provide the likes of Facebook with a pretext for censoring conservative posts by asserting such violate the law even if they do not, while allowing liberal hate.
