Kamala Harris’ first significant political role was an appointment by her powerful then-boyfriend Willie Brown, three decades her senior, to a California medical board that has been criticized as a landing spot for patronage jobs and kickbacks.
Then 30, Harris was dating 60-year-old Willie Brown, at the time the Democratic speaker of the California State Assembly, when he placed her on the California Medical Assistance Commission in 1994. The position paid over $70,000 per year, $120,700 in current money, and Harris served on the board until 1998.
The medical commission met twice a month, and Harris, a United States senator for California since 2017 and now a 2020 Democratic presidential candidate, missed about 20% of the meetings each year, according to commission records obtained by the Washington Examiner.

Willie Brown was well known for giving out high paid jobs to friends for political favors. As an IT guru, I did various consulting work for SF, including the mayor’s office and Emergency Services/911. One guy kept asking me if he could help me by getting coffee or answering my phone. He just sat around doing nothing. I asked him what his job was, he said he didn’t know. Willie put him there at 911 pulling down over $100K. Turns out he had done favors for Willie in the state assembly, and when forced out as assembly speaker then Willie gave him this job. When the elevator was crowded and the doors opened with Willie standing there, everyone quickly moved aside and gave him lots of space. He would just stare down everyone including me with an imperious gaze. BTW, that guy Brian at 911 went to prison for corruption. Hope that happens to Kamala.
There are a lot of posters on this forum who dismiss her out of hand, but I don’t think it’s safe or useful to underestimate her.
Harris is very good at delivering a soundbite or making a scene and getting good press from that scene or soundbite. She has a real talent for staging herself well and a real willing media to help her do so.
She is also endlessly ambitious. She knew what she needed to do to get to the front of the line in California politics and she did it. She is smart enough to put on an apron and smile for a selfie when she needs to appear feminine and nonthreatening, and she can throw that victim card around whenever she gets in trouble.
She does not have any moral compass other than ambition, she cared not for the laws she was supposed to enforce or the constituents she was supposed to serve. She’d be a thoroughly dangerous president in part because like Hillary she would be smart enough to surround herself with yes men who would clear the decks for her unmoored power plays. One of her first campaign promises has been to trample on the second ammendment if Congress won’t do it for her first.
She isn’t particularly clever and her act gets less popular the longer she does it, but that could be said of a number of politicians who have won national election.
And we know from the Kavanaugh hearings she will lie like hell.

I believe a similar family situation also positioned Kirsten Gillibrand’s political interests as I think it was her Grandmother who was Albany NY iron fisted big boss mayor Erastus Corning’s concubine, which helped the family in the political social circles and helped groom Kirsten.
Horizontal Harris was vital in serving Willie Brown’s Staff.
She was always on top and never wavered in her position.
I thought she sat on his Staff.

To go up against President Trump, you absolutely need to think on your feet. This is why Harris will not make the final cut. She is only good as a prosecutor, such as rifling off ridiculous questions at Senate hearings.
As soon as someone prosecutes her at a debate, her communications weak point will be exposed.
