Veteran John "Bill" Williams recalled to WRC-TV that he was in Vietnam just six days before two fellow service members were shot down, declared missing in action, "and they still haven't found their bodies."
Such losses are why the Vietnam Veterans Memorial Plaza in Rockville, Maryland, means so much to Williams.

"I wasn't happy about it at all because the park is supposed to be a veterans park," Williams told WRC. "People died. Now they took it down and put another flag up."
He added to the station, "If they want to put the other flag underneath, they could put it underneath, but the POW flag should be flying there."
What's the background?
It was the first time a rainbow pride flag flew at the Veterans Memorial Plaza, which is outside the Montgomery County executive office building, WRC said.
Montgomery County Council member Evan Glass, the council's first LGBTQ member, helped celebrate the raising of the pride flag last week, the station added.
But WRC noted that the flag switch ignited public outcry and Glass said things would be smoothed over.
"The flag post was only able to accommodate one flag, and when we learned of that, we are quickly, the county government, is quickly changing it," he told the station. "So we're adding more ringlets so that by tomorrow morning both flags will be raised."
The POW/MIA flag indeed was raised again as the rainbow pride flag continued to fly, County Executive Mark Elrich told WRC.
The rainbow flag will be up during June for pride month, the station said, while the POW/MIA flag will fly permanently.
Insulting does not even cover this travesty...
This is DEAD WRONG ... seems if the “authorities” don’t do something, then someone NOT in authority should do something. That should have been taken down IMMEDIATELY. It would not have lasted long in “my” area of “non-authority”.
I want these people pushed back into the closet, and I want them banned from working in school systems.
Time for the pendulum to swing the other way.
“Insulting does not even cover this travesty...”
As they meant it to be, while the President is overseas.
Absolutely no reason why this should happen....
That flag ahs nothing whatsoever to do with veterans....
GET IT DOWN.............
This flag celebrating deviant sexual practices at a veterans memorial is a blatant insult to military families who have suffered the loss of a loved one in service to their country.
Homosexuals must think with their crotch.
tear it down, burn it. it’s protected speech.
You damned right!! These abnormal people with abnormal sexual desires must be stopped with their desire to convince all people to accept them as normal. They are abnormal!!
They lit up the Obama White House like a Rainbow when Gay Marriage was Federalized. Nothing surprises me anymore.
Whose idea was it? Who would think of it?
Hmmm, and which flag will be on top. The gay one is definitely a bottom.
Who allowed this? It is an outrage.
Absolutely disgusting, who is the pig that authorized this?
And sodomites kept claiming that they are “politically powerless.” In what universe?
Sometimes I wonder why I went into the Army to protect the Americans who hate me.
Both flags flying side by side eventually.. Priceless.
(as was the sacrifice made by those who died for future generations to live in peace&harmony)
How do you like that ‘peace’ ?
Devolution is no more glamorous than evolution.
“The flag post was only able to accommodate one flag”
Really? Even though the pole right next to it flew two flags? (See 0:26 of the video at https://www.nbcwashington.com/news/local/Pride-Flag-Replaces-POWMIA-Flag-at-Montgomery-County-Executive-Building-511107401.html)
This is not the place for that kind of, pride
