Document leak reveals vetting during Trump’s transition to White House

A trove of vetting documents leaked to the news organization Axios on HBO shows “red flags” the administration uncovered as President Trump put together his cabinet and the top levels of government following his shocking White House win and his decision to fire transition director Chris Christie.

With Christie’s departure, much of the vetting of candidates was left up to “20-something [Republican National Committee] staffers,” according to Axios’ Jonathan Swan. The documents show what aides worried would be problematic. For instance, both Mick Mulvaney, now the acting White House chief of staff, and former Defense Secretary James Mattis got dinged for previous criticism of Trump.

At the top of Mulvaney’s file is the fact that he once called then-candidate Trump “not a very good person.”

National security adviser John Bolton had allegations in his vetting file that stated he had a habit of “bullying career State Department” officials and claimed he had been accused of “accosting women on overseas trips.” ...

White House principal deputy press secretary Hogan Gidley called the president’s staff picks an “incredible team” and put down the leaker. “President Trump has done more to improve the lives of the American people in two years than past presidents have done in eight and no disgruntled establishment, DC swamp creature’s cowardly leaks can change that,” Gidley told Axios.

Likely simply reflects normal process but personnel vetting and senior officials selection to date leaves a lot to be desired IMO (see Sessions, Tillerson, Wray et al)

Here’s the Axios article. Lots of info on what was found when nominees were vetted:

Chris Christie paid $175,000 attack ads against Republican candidates running for governor of the state of Colorado. Why do we even consider him as GOP after hes hug form Obama.

Kinda like Obama’s admin picks, such as Brennan for CIA chief, who voted for the Communist Party USA in 1980.

Tempest in a teapot. Unsubstantiated and biased comments always surface in this kind of vetting. Angry people try to torpedo their enemies. What is disturbing is the leaking of this information that violates privacy rights and hurts the process.

True but weren’t Brennan and other senior picks in alignment with Obama’s radicalism vs. the personnel / MAGA misalignments with some of the high level picks of the current administration?

Chris Christie was, is, and always will be a self serving pig.

You really have to be nuts to think that hug Christie gave Obama made a bit of difference in Obama getting reelected.

I do not think it made a difference. The biggest difference was that Romney stopped campaigning like he was throwing the election right when he pulled ahead.

Wasn’t that McCain? I remember McCain doing that!
I don’t remember Romney doing that.

This smells of a Beltway RINO, a Bush family type, that rushed into the transition team after not doing a thing to help him get elected. I live here and know handfuls of them here.

It was BOTH of them. McStain flat out suspended his campaign because of the housing crash and Mitt the used car salesman, stopped attacking Obama in August/Sept precisely when he started to out-fund raise Obama and pull ahead of him in the polls. I was referring to the Obama-Christie story which happened in 2012.

Well, to be fair, you don’t grow a mustache like that and NOT offer ladies free mustache rides.

The complaints regarding Bolton are primarily from the snowflake crowd who wilt from strong vigorous arguement. Its said if you discuss issues with him be prepared to defend your views. Too too many people can’t handle disagreement. You see it here on FR.

I recall how Romney all but crushed the lil boy child in the second debate...and then rolled over in the final debate
