Having been born and raised in South Bend, it used to be a great town. Actually had Lloyd Allen a Pubbie mayor in the 60’s and early 70’s.
Now it’s a toilet, one of the worst murder rates per capita in the entire country. Have not lived there in 40 years but have friends there still that say the transformation has been stunning.
I will never forget going with my father (another South Bend native) to see the Studebaker National Museum in its original downtown home near the train station, and noticing it was surrounded by high fencing topped with razor tape. I remember advising my father that we probably shouldn’t stick around.
Sounds like my home town. A microcosm of the downward spiral of society.
