We face a real situation where Roe could be overturned. And we know what will happen, which is that women will die. Thousands of women died every year pre-Roe.
Leana Wen, president of Planned Parenthood, in an interview with WFAA of Dallas, March 6, 2019

THE FACTS
By 1959, a leading researcher wrote: Abortion is no longer a dangerous procedure. This applies not just to therapeutic abortions as performed in hospitals but also to so-called illegal abortions as done by physicians. In 1957, there were only 260 deaths in the whole country attributed to abortions of any kind. In New York City in 1921, there were 144 abortion deaths, in 1951 there were only 15.
The writer was Mary Steichen Calderone, at the time medical director of Planned Parenthood. She attributed the decline in the mortality rate to antibiotics and the fact that 90 percent of illegal abortions were done by trained physicians.
In 1972, the number of deaths in the US from legal abortions was 24 and from illegal abortions 39, according to the CDC.

The Pinocchio Test
Wen is a doctor, and the ACOG is made up of doctors. They should know better than to peddle statistics based on data that predate the advent of antibiotics. ...There is no evidence that in the years immediately preceding the Supreme Courts decision, thousands of women died every year in the United States from illegal abortions.
Unsafe abortion is certainly a serious issue, especially in countries with inadequate medical facilities. But advocates hurt their cause when they use figures that do not withstand scrutiny. These numbers were debunked in 1969 50 years ago by a statistician celebrated by Planned Parenthood. Theres no reason to use them today.
FOUR PINOCCHIOS.

And when WaPo says it's bogus, it's bogus beyond all possible bogosity. It's double-tongued abysmal bogissimus maximus.
For some reason our side doesn’t argue the facts very well.
Even if it were true, I can’t say that I would shed any tears for women who get hurt in the process of killing their babies.
Even fully responsible victims of sin, are still that: victims of sin. We should have a heart for sinners, considering our own status as wretches ransomed by One who died for us.
Many abortion-minded women have been lied to by these liars, and I always shed tears: of anger for the liars, of pity for the victims.
Thousands dead...
Millions dead...
Somehow that second stat never gets mentioned by the Left.
That's a heartless attitude toward someone who's been lied to and believed it.
I saw a video of a young woman, who at her 3rd abortion, was shown a sonogram. She was shocked and didn't go through with the abortion.
If you really want to see abortion come to a screeching halt, do a DNA test on the fetus and then find and arrest the father as an accessory to murder.
And millions of babies...
How many women were maimed or killed undergoing one of the 50,000,000 unsafe quasi leagal not very rare abortions since Roe v Wade?
How about fatalities which happen on the day of the abortion? Take this for an example: one of abortionist Kermit Gosnell's patients, Karnamaya Mongar, was in severe pain, turned gray and went into cardiac arrest during her abortion procedure, according to the woman who administered her medication that day. Mongar was taken to the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania where she died the next day. The initial ruling was "accidental" death.
I think the answer is, basically, unknowable because of the lack of accurate reporting requirements.
But perhaps some FReeper know where to get better information, in which case, I'm all ears.

Interesting this is in the WP.
‘That’s a heartless attitude toward someone who’s been lied to and believed it.’
so, were they told that the baby really didn’t die in the procedure, and they believed it...?
‘considering our own status as wretches ransomed by One who died for us.’
we are wretches who have to be ransomed...? is someone holding us hostage...? if so, why...?
Ridiculous statement on your part.
Yes. Sin.
Bump for reference.
I have found, as I grow older, that fewer and fewer people actually think their way through things.
Not that ignorance renders you blameless. Each person does have a duty of moral diligence: to pro-actively find out what is right and what is wrong -- with moral certainty --- before you act. Especially when it's a question of life or death.
You can bet on this, though: the guys with the knives know what they're dong. They know it very well.
Isn't it odd that everything about the "fetus" is human: human genome, human liver, human neural tube, human cardiac tissue, human blood --- everything except human rights.
Our own weakness and ignorance, fear and doubt, immaturity, thoughtlessness, sloth -—and most of all, the powers of sin and death -— these hold us hostage. Why do you think we need a Savior?
People rarely ask what it is they are aborting. When counselors are asked, they simply say that all they ever see come through the tube is tissue, blood, mucus.
