Sen. Peters describes some nebulous need for a socialist plan regarding the US manufacturing industry and then proposes a socialist solution of control ($$) for the US manufacturing industry, because...meh...Government isn't getting enough of the revenue off the top.

And, he uses scary language like, "tumultuous times ahead" as if only government can see the problems ahead and only government can guide business through those problems.

Gary has stepped into John James' wheelhouse on purpose and I hope Mr. James applies an appropriate slap-down to this obvious attempt at grabbing MORE money and regulatory power for the elite socialist class. From the JohnJamesForSenate.com website (via twitter): "My family has been involved in job creation in Detroit for 50 years. I see the life you give a community when people get a fair shot. If a politician says the only way to help is free stuff, they 📣have never created a job 📣need to justify their own job"

Yes, a government agency to be responsible for centrally planning our manufacturing policy. That’ll explode Manufacturing!!!

Milton Friedman has a quote about putting the government in charge of the Sahara Desert, and inside of twenty years there will be a shortage of sand.

Call it the “Department of Eliminating Unnecessary Regulations and Cutting the Size of Government in Half” and you might be onto something, Gary.

One of the most interesting young black conservatives I ever met grew up in Detroit where his father and grandfather had been auto industry workers. He became conservative because he saw how the Democrats, socialists and unions ruined his town, family members, friends and culture.

Is this dope in favor of Soviet 5 year plans or something?

If they can't compete, then they go out of business. Capitalism is tough but makes the best products ... allocation of resources.

Good Lord are these people completely ignorant?

Oh, YES.
We need MORE government bureaucrats that have never worked in industry to tell entrepreneurs and manufacturers how to do business. RIGHTTTTTT.

Soviet Planning at it's worst.

Gary you idiot!

The point of free market capitalism is to let the market decide.

A gov't agency would only be used for blackmail, bribery, and kickbacks.

If only we had a bureaucracy like that a hundred years ago we might have been able to save the buggy whip industry. We might even have responsible regulations requiring every car to have a buggy whip in it for improved acceleration. < /s>

U.S. Department of Commerce can't do what this guy is proposing, then it ought to be dismantled.

Maybe it should be dismantled anyway, but that's a whole different conversation.

“Michigan automakers, parts suppliers and advanced manufacturers have worked hard to innovate, Peters said, but need a strategy backed by policy guidelines and federal investment to remain world leaders in manufacturing. “

Ok?

They have each others phone numbers.

They can sit down and hash that out themselves.

M Kehoe purposes no new federal agencies.

Matter of fact, M Kehoe purposes the elimination of the Dept. Of Education.

From A concerned citizen Sen. Peters.
