Nothing would be more unpopular with the American people than a new [another] war in the Mideast.

What the U.S. has done in the Middle East in the previous 25 years would have been akin to America, in the 1940s, warring against the Axis powers and their allies piecemeal - i.e., first engaging in a long and costly war against the Rumanians, and then against the Italians, and then against Japanese, etc.

Maybe what was needed was to address the issue head-on, and re-order the entire region in one fell swoop.

The U.S. military has been functioning as mercenaries for powerful Sunni royal families in the Middle East for decades. Why the hell would any American want to re-order the entire region for THEM — just because they’re major global real estate investment partners of the Bush family?
