Most people here saw this right away. President Trump baited the trap. The media walked right in, expressing outrage at the thing Trump hadn't done. The FEC helpfully chimed in exclaiming how wrong this would be, and not just that, but how
obviously wrong this would be.
And slowly people wake up and say ... wait ... Hillary did that. And we knew she did that. And ... and ... hey, this could be bad.
