Matt, this is not about avenging attacks against Japanese ships, but rather enforcing international law about freedom of navigation in international waters. The Iranians should not be allowed to control or shut down the Straits of Hormuz.
Then the multi-billion dollar Saudi navy should do something about it.
Oh, they never troubled themselves to buy one? Never mind...
Let’s start enforcing our laws before we get too wrapped up in enforcing international laws. The coup conspirators need to be arrested now. Barr needs to get off his ass and abandon his Modified, Limited Hangout strategy.
> enforcing international law
Let the International President handle that one; it’s his job, not Trump’s.
If the “international community” wants the US Navy to enforce “freedom of the seas”, then they need to pay us. Until then, they can all go to hell.
A nation that refuses to protect its own borders has no business enforcing international law.
“The Iranians should not be allowed to control or shut down the Straits of Hormuz.”
It’s still not our job. We have been mired in endless BS over there for decades. We obviously don’t have the political nerve to crack down and finish the job, so why spend another dime fiddle-farting around over there? We’re good on oil now. Let Saudi police them for a change.
We are a net oil exporter. Shutting down the Strait means we can sell our oil for more.
The only downside is if Iran does cut off the Persian Gulf supply lines Russia, Russia, Russia also benefits from higher oil prices, oil being just about the only thing they have that anyone wants.
Russia, Russia, Russia benefits even more if a war shuts down the supply and kills a bunch of Americans, destabilizes Trump, and demoralizes Americans as an extra special bonus.
