The sun is setting more on Britain than it is on its "special relationship" with the U.S.

“intrusions into the domestic affairs of the UK by Trump,”
This guys got to be the biggest idiot known to man. Ever heard of sleaze boy Chris Steel and the active complicity of England’s spy agencies in trying to overthrow our president.

“former Lt Governor of Andaman & Nicobar Islands and Puducherry”

O.K., I would not have been impressed with just the Andaman & Nicobar Islands, but with Puducherry thrown in—Wow!

"A hapless empire was left with a visiting US President telling them about his personal preferences for the next Prime Minister in Boris Johnson or Jeremy Hunt."

I supposed when Obama was telling them his preferences for what the Brexit vote should be and that the UK would have to go to the back of the line to negotiate a trade deal, that was ok with this writer. I'm sure he was also ok with a British spy trying to influence our elections with bogus allegations....

Another hack writer who can't help but show his bias...

The real problem is Britain has abandoned it former greatness, and as such the United States is the only bastion of freedom.

Economically Britain and the EEC are as potent as the USA. They have refused to defend freedom with the exception of Eastern Europe once under the tyranny of the old collapsed Soviet Union. Odd is it not that those that had the iron hand of tyranny as free nations today are the most pro American nations in Europe?

If one looks at the economic might of Russia they are minuscule as compared to Western Europe. If Western Europe fails it will be but suicide by insane political choice.

Russia does have the nuclear capability to destroy Western Europe and also the United States as we also have the same capability thus it will not happen.

Western Europe and the United States have the capability to bring Russia to their knees via our vastly superior free market economy.

It is actually happening today due to our now oil exports from fracking. We have driven down the price of oil. Russia’s economy is based on oil and military export sales.

Funny that the author pretends to be concerned about Britain taking a servile position towards the US but does not see that having an open enemy governing their capitol city is as servile as a country can get.

In 1983, the US invaded Grenada in the Caribbean, then supposedly a member of the British Commonwealth.

Because nothing says more about the health of the British Commonwealth than having a part of said commonwealth licking Castro's boots and hosting a Soviet bomber base. /s

Well to tell the truth, the sun is setting on Britain AND the U.S. and in many parts of Europe. Read the Camp of The Saints a 1973 book that mirrors what is happening in the civilized world today - except it was set in France and the invaders were from the Indian subcontinent. The author of this best selling novel hit the concept spot on. Furthermore, the U.K. started the industrial revolution and then just stopped being great between WWI and the end of WWII. They pretty much did it all by themselves. Isn’t that exactly what we are doing now??

Sorry to say this but this greatness thing is like the setting sun. It is moving to the west from here (and I don’t mean Hawaii).

“I fear that this has become a bad relationship. One that is based on the President taking exactly what he wants and casually ignoring all those things that really matter to Britain.”

I saw great respect with the Trumps and everyone in England they met with.

England gets the respect it deserves. If Trump said something, it was to aways benefit England in what was better for them.

This man is a profound idiot.

Donald Trump could file away Dean Rusk’s comment (”When the Russians invade Sussex”) for possible use on the Governor of New Jersey...except that Sussex Co. is probably the county in New Jersey least likely to be in danger of invasion by the Russians. (It’s in the extreme northern part of the state along the Delaware River.)

A lot of Brit complaining in that article. But they forget to mention how they tried to kill our young republic in 1812. And how they tried to split us up during the civil war. They forget their treachery on the creation of the Federal reserve and the hijacking of our finance. They forget their treachery in WWI in which they threatened US neutral shipping. They forget the Naval Treaty in the 1920s where they insisted on having superiority over the USN in battleships because they still kept the idea they might need to fight us one day.

They forget the degree to which they insisted on US actions in the Mediterranean in WWII to shore up their colonial positions.
The special relationship includes them undermining or attempting to control us every few decades.

But all of that could be overlooked if their intelligence services did not try to interfere in our 2016 election and assist with the coup attempt afterwards.

The Brits broke their alliance with their participation in the coup attempt. As that country is willingly submitting to Islam, the time to cut this tie has come.

What nonsense.
Ike put the US guarantee on oil shipments from the ME to Europe because he could, and Britain couldn’t.

Blah Blah Blah. I’ve read this nonsense many times before.

Yes its true that in some ways the US did drive a hard bargain with the UK during the early part of WWII. It is also true that the US extended Britain a “loan” at a ridiculously low interest rate and allowed Britain to suspend repayments whenever it ran into difficulties (eg massive currency fluctuations, etc) which proved necessary a few times. The things bought with this “loan” were sold at cost - much of it was not actually weapons but instead economically useful things like tractors, etc.

After the war, Britain received more Marshal Plan aid than anybody else. There were again some very low interest “loans”...the kind you could never get from any commercial lender...and there were also large outright grants of cash. All in All, I’d say the UK was thrown a financial lifeline by America both during and after the war. Austerity in the 1950s would’ve been far worse without that lifeline.

As for Trump “interfering” in UK politics, I can cite just as many examples the other way. For example he whines that Trump criticized Khan and Corbin....yet somehow forgot that they had both repeatedly criticized Trump...in fact that they had done so first and that Trump simply hit back. Odd how he “forgot” to mention that little detail.
