Washington (CNN)The US is escalating cyber attacks on Russia's electric power grid and has placed potentially crippling malware inside the Russian system, The New York Times reported Saturday.
The placement of the malware that deep within the Russian grid had never previously been attempted, the Times reports, and is intended partly as a warning and also to put the US in a position to conduct cyber attacks should a significant conflict arise with Russia.
Two administration officials told the Times they believed President Donald Trump had not been briefed in any detail about the US computer code being implanted inside the Russian grid.
Pentagon and intelligence officials describe to the Times "broad hesitation" to tell Trump about the details of the operations against Russia. They tell the Times there was concern over how Trump would react, and the possibility that Trump might reverse the operations or discuss it with foreign officials.
In 2017, Trump shared highly classified information with the Russian foreign minister and Russian ambassador to the US in a White House meeting, The Washington Post first reported and CNN later confirmed.

Here the Times is saying the Pentagon and CIA is starting a war with Russia, and Trump wasn’t told about it.
This sounds strange, and why would the people who did this even tell the NYT?
Or is it standard espionage? That the NYT is threatening world peace by revealing it?
They breed war to sell newspapers?
We did hack Iran, and we likely hacked everyone else but why reveal it?
Make a story out of it? We also have nukes aimed at Russia. Is that a story?
The only way this isn’t a major national security offense is if the story is false and the authors and editors and publisher all know it is false.
If it’s true, they’d hang for it.
The chance that Russia is dumb enough to take the NYT at face value is zero.
The story must be false, and the Russians will know that by the lack of NY Times offices being raided by some security agency or other.
Simplest explanation is this is another Deep Stater distraction-hoax.

He does not get it. If he were of any value, he would not only be invited to Moscow he would travel there first class. Then he would live there in the apartment with Snowden.
