One of their limpet mines didn’t explode and they are BUSTED.

I don’t see how the US can avoid a retaliation after all the threats that have been issued.

Bombs away.

This part from the Fox News story is blatantly false.

“The tensions between the U.S. and Iran have reached a fever pitch and the diplomatic efforts to defuse the situation tend to hit a wall. Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe is visiting Iran this week and is expected to try to de-escalate tensions between Tehran and Washington, though any significant breakthrough is unlikely.”

Literally hours before this incident, there was a very fruitful and public meeting between Japanese PM Abe and Iran’s leadership. It is definitely suspicious as hell that this was not reported and instead that instigative alternate reality version was put in the story instead.

“After everything we’ve seen from the U.S. intelligence apparatus over the last few years”

This information originated with the US Navy.

They found an unexploded limpet mine on the side of one of the ships.

That’s nearly conclusive. And once brought into a lab, can be 100% conclusive.

Don’t get me wrong, everyone knows the US Intel community is corrupt and the very seat of warmongering in the world today.

But they have hard evidence here.

Why would Iran attack a Japanese ship while the Japanese PM is in Iran on a peacemaking trip, and being received with honor?

Makes no sense. Means, motive, opportunity. Other parties (Saudis in particular, but also rogue elements in our own government) have all three, while Iran has no motive to attack a Japanese ship, and many many reasons not to.

In terms of how the damage was done, yes. In terms of WHO is responsible for it, it tells us nothing.

What I can’t help but notice is that all the parties that are the first to point the finger are the ones with motive.

“This is not our fight.”

Maybe, maybe not.

Just be aware that the whole of Western Civilization depends upon the free flow of commerce on the seas. And the US Navy has been the principal guarantor of that for 200 years.

Talk about a New World Order!

Everything, and I mean EVERYTHING will change if we stop.

Maybe, but too convenient for my tastes. Reminds me of the "recovery" of one of the 9/11 hijacker's passport from the rubble. The manufacturer of these devices might not be in question, but how such it came to be attached is another question altogether.

IRGC is not under the control of the Iranian government and they want a war. Or, to prove they are not afraid of war with the US.

They want to demonstrate their capability. They think they could close the Gulf and they want the world to know it.

And they COULD...for a few days. After that, nothing but hell awaits.

> Even then, who’s to say that some foreign power didn’t divert an Iranian mine into a shipping lane in order to stir the pot? <

Well, if I were Country A - and I wanted to damage a tanker - I’d “accidentally” leave behind an unexploded mine that belonged to Country B.

“In terms of WHO is responsible for it, it tells us nothing.”

A sophisticated, delayed limpet can be traced to the country of origin. 100%.

If it’s an Iranian limpet, does it matter who exactly placed it?

That’s like saying the IEDs in Iraq were not the responsibility of Iran because IRAQI Shiites placed it.

Is it possible for one party to steal or reproduce another party’s limpet?

It does if the Saudis or CIA placed it, absolutely.

Do you think the Navy Seals, or other foreign special forces, have the capability to snatch an Iranian mine and put it somewhere it doesn't belong? I do.

“Is it possible for one party to steal or reproduce another party’s limpet?”

Maybe.

But it would require a very sophisticated state actor. I doubt the Saudis could do it.

The US, Russia, China, Norklandia, Japan, Israel could. MAYBE Pakistan. India. Most of Europe.

Methods/Designs and components are traceable. Even the friggin solder is traceable. The composition of the explosive is traceable. Even the steel.
