Some Republican Lawmakers Break With Party on Climate Change
Wall Street Journal ^ | June 12, 2019 | Arian Campo-Flores

A small but growing number of Republican lawmakers are urging action on climate change, driven by shifting sentiment among GOP voters and the effects of global warming, from stronger hurricanes to more-destructive wildfires.

The group backs policies rooted in what they consider GOP principles, favoring market-based solutions rather than government regulations. Many are loyal supporters of President Trump, but they part with him on climate change, which he has dismissed as hyped.

Republican Rep. Matt Gaetz of Florida says the GOP needs to advance sound conservative proposals to combat climate change and embrace science, or risk long-term political damage.

“How can we as a party stand up to the generational challenges we face with globalization and automation and climate change if we don’t look credible to the body politic,” Mr. Gaetz said in an interview.

He is my rep. I have said before that I am suspicious of him.

He seems to be OK but this is the second time he has showed leftist colors.

Are they Republicans or moderate democrats?

Power abhors a vacuum and currently there is nobody home in the space that the formerly “moderate” wing of the democrat party used to occupy. The whole crew packed up and went to looney leftville chanting MAVA (Make American Venezuela Again).

Now that wing will be populated by “D’s” wearing “R” jerseys.

Interest in “climate change” is a back-door attempt to justify new and onerous taxation schemes designed to enable and extend even greater government involvement in the lives of individuals. Shame on you for fighting back. < /sarcasm >

Totally anti-liberty and anti-freedom.

Make America American again, in the sense in which it was first proposed and put into practice, an experiment in giving power to the people. Apparently some few of the “leaders” of today’s establishment think this power has been abused by “the people”, and they want to snatch it back, either by stealth or by simply a bold stroke.

"... driven by shifting sentiment among GOP voters and the effects of global warming ... ."

Since when are GOP lawmakers responsive to the sentiment of GOP voters?

Is liberty different from freedom?

As some wag said, I am not as interested
in the freedom I have, but the liberties
I can take.

This is pathetic. Someone needs to talk to these jerks and tell them Gore should first strain the Ganges river, then we can talk about 0.04% CO2.

They want the money. Nobody... but nobody considers climate an issue except college kids, greedy politicians and money grubbing Al Gore types. They always slide in to the next Democrat absurdity by saying, “We better offer a program too.”

Perhaps he sees the tea leaves (polls) that say people are sensitive to Climate Change.
Using ideas like raising Bamboo@ It uses 5X more carbon dioxide than trees , versatile, and is fast growing thus sustainable. Shut up the “Progressives” with Progress.
