Federal land managers on Wednesday proposed sweeping rule changes to a landmark environmental law that would allow them to fast-track certain forest management projects, including logging and prescribed burning. The U.S. Forest Service, under Chief Vicki Christiansen, is proposing revisions to its National Environmental Policy Act regulations that could limit environmental review and public input on projects ranging from forest health and wildfire mitigation to infrastructure upgrades to commercial logging on federal land.
"We do more analysis than we need, we take more time than we need and we slow down important work to protect communities," Christiansen told NPR.
The proposed rule changes include an expansion of "categorical exclusions." These are often billed as tools that give land managers the discretion to bypass full-blown environmental studies in places where they can demonstrate there would be no severe impacts or degradation to the land.

A forester attends my church. He told me that California won’t allow replanting. If foresters were allowed to replant forested lands, it would reduce atmospheric carbon.
All those useless studies cost money, and that money goes into the pockets of Democrats.
When in the history of the world has the climate “not” changed?
ooops, wrong thread.....
“He told me that California wont allow replanting. If foresters were allowed to replant forested lands, it would reduce atmospheric carbon.”
Exactly correct. Replanting would help with “global warming” they are so afraid of. This makes it obvious that they aren’t really worried about CO2, just using that as an excuse to cripple the US economy.
Yeah man but I hate to sound like a downer...none of this matters if thousands of people from Africa, some of whom may have ebola and God knows what else, are pouring in.
Just my 2 cents.
But yes, it’s a good thing.
Finally!
And don’t forget, according to AOC we have less than 12 years to live anyway. So who cares about forest management./sarc
Good.
The CalFire website says that after logging; “The landowner must restock (replant) the area according to the Forest Practice Rules requirements. A stocking report must be filled with CAL FIRE to certify that these requirements were met. If the landowner fails to restock the land, CAL FIRE may hire a contractor to do the work and bill the landowner.”
ALL WE SEE HERE ARE THE WORST REPORTS FROM THE BORDER!!! :)
And I know that’s what the site is for.
Too not paint a fake picture.
But after a while you don’t know how bad or good things really are
They also need to allow grazing. Livestock will clear the grasses and low hanging branches (and an added advantage, they leave a good quality fertilizer behind).
This needs to be done particularly close to towns.
Restrict cutting “harvest” until bird-breeding season is finished?
What?
