Went on a cruise to the eastern Caribbean a few years back.
Every port we stopped at had people selling tee shirts, spices, and other items. The exception was the DR they had armed guards and we were told to stay with our tour group. After my tour I wished I stayed on the ship.

OMG. Very relieved to hear Ortiz is stable post surgery. The DR has always been a pit, albeit other half of Hispaniola has been a worse pit. Recent stories out of the DR seem to indicate it is destabilizing.
