Armed Mexican government stops migrant caravan with armed police and military personnel as tariff

Will Mexico's efforts be enough to avert the Trump administration's tariff plan?

Armed Mexican government forces stopped a northbound caravan of Central American migrants after it crossed over the country's southern border from Guatemala.

Reuters reported that the group of migrants met a collection of Mexican military personnel, immigration officials, and police after crossing near the town of Metapa in the southern state of Chiapas.

According to the Associated Press, the migrant column began at a border town and was headed to one of the main cities in the region when it encountered government forces who blocked the highway. Most of the migrants in the group complied with orders from immigration officials and got into vans, but some had to be wrestled to the ground, the report said.

The news comes as the short-term future of the trade relationship between the United States and Mexico hinges on the status of talks between Trump administration and Mexican government officials in Washington, D.C., which began the same day as the caravan interception in Chiapas took place.

If I am Mexico's PR arm, I say "hey, let's make a show of stopping a caravan, then the silly Americans will think we mean business, and then we'll go right back to what we were (not) doing."

Gonna take more than one incident to show they are serious.

BINGO! All for show, hoping Trump gets this news item to make him THINK they're serious.

WE. KNOW. BETTER.

There are two levels of ‘authority’ in Mexico. There’s the elected government, and the drug cartels. I think if the US went to an intense border control and made max effort for a month to control/stop drug flow, and just hint that it’ll continue unless the caravans halt....then the cartels would ensure they stop. That’s probably the more effective way of handling this episode.

Sounds like the price of an E ticket to the US border is going to increase dramatically.

That’s why the tariffs should go on and escalate for a few months ( let them get u to at least 15%), so that the Mexican Government can get a good idea of just how bad it is going to get for them if they fail to interdict the migrants. Ditto for their own citizens.
And an escalating tax on remittances following the same scale ( i.e. starting at 5% on Monday as well). When the Beaners see that we can and will wreck their economy, they will get busy and stop this nonsense.

Ted Cruz is a useless d!ck! It’s really too bad Texas didn’t replace him with someone who isn’t a weasel. Now the country has to put up with him for six more years. Just hope they replace Cornholio next year.

I asked myself that question too. Then I went to the US Senate webpage and sent Ted an email and asked for a response. We shall see.

Americans should buy 'speeches' from military contractors, intelligence thugs, State Department pretentious fops, and other assorted 'elites' in DC - - to get our military to protect OUR borders.

It works for Arabs

Tricky stuff - - paying legal bribes... But it's our best shot at getting protection for our borders. Anyone know how much does it costs to buy Nancy Pelosi?

More likely, the military, aka cartel, held the caravan until the passage toll was paid.
