Mexico aims to avoid tariffs with potential deal limiting migrants going north, allowing U.S. to deport Central American asylum seekers

U.S. and Mexican officials are discussing the outlines of a deal that would dramatically increase Mexico’s immigration enforcement efforts and give the United States far more latitude to deport Central Americans seeking asylum, according to a U.S. official and a Mexican official who cautioned that the accord is not finalized and that President Trump might not accept it.

Faced with Trump’s threat to impose escalating tariffs on Mexican goods beginning Monday, Mexican officials have pledged to deploy up to 6,000 National Guard troops to the country’s border region with Guatemala, a show of force they say will make immediate reductions in the number of Central Americans heading north toward the U.S. border.

The Mexican official and the U.S. official said the countries are negotiating a sweeping plan to overhaul asylum rules across the region, a move that would require Central Americans to seek refuge in the first foreign country they set foot upon after fleeing their homeland.

they are going to Reconquista everything west of the Rocky Mountains

The fun little secret there about "Reconquista"... Mexico only owned those lands for 27 years.

Mexico became a country in 1821 (Declaration in 1821, Constitution in 1824, and not fully recognized until 1836).
The Treaty of Hidalgo, ceding the SW to the US, was signed in 1848 (although a small slice was added in the Gadsden Purchase in 1854)

The REALLY fun part? The Treaty of Hidalgo specifically gave the residents of UT, ARIZ, CA, and NEV (plus a small western slice of NM and CO) three options: remain citizens of Mexico but stay in place... become citizens of the US and stay in place... or be repatriated into Mexico. NINETY THREE percent of the residents voluntarily chose to become American citizens. Four percent chose to stay but as Mexican citizens. Three percent went to Mexico.

Nobody has yet to explain why 27 years of Mexican rule overrules the Treaty of Hidalgo, overrules the voluntary choice of the peoples living there at the time, the most recent 171 years of American rule, or the previous thousands of years of ownership by the Apache, Navajo, Ute, Hopi, Zuni, Pomo, Paiute, Mojave, Yuma and other Native tribes. Only those magical 27 years matter, and nothing else. ROFLMBO.

"Fair or not, President Trump owns this mess. I’ll wait to hear from him on this."

I tend to agree with you. I'm no expert but seems like a heavier hand could have been used to stop this mess we're in now. Just the past year we have added way too many to our welfare state.

When the Dems sit on their hands regarding immigration, Trump is able to get Mexico to build the “wall” by limiting the movement of people to the border and/or creating Mexican laws that will help our policy. Brilliant.

Well it’s progress. He’s got Mexico working on our illegal immigration problem since congress won’t do it.

Why do we need a deal with Mexico to deport Central Americans?

If they MUST take asylum in Mexico it eliminates their legal reason for then seeking asylum in the U.S. due to abuse in their central American country.

Oh now, don’t forget the posts that the USA always gets nothing and Israel gets everything.

As if that makes any logical sense....

Anyone know how strong the cartels are in southern Mexico? I thought they were more of a northern Mexico phenomenon with more of a modern Zapatista energy from Oaxaca south.

Hmm...I hope Mexico knows we are not playing...We still need to cut immigration from everywhere. We need to revise the tax code so families aren’t punished.

Maybe I missed it, but I’m not seeing anything about Mexico reducing their own contributions to the invasion.
Are they still handing out maps, water, blankets, and instruction of who to vote for to Mexican border jumpers?
Trump needs to close the Mexican “Matricula Consular’s”, let the Mex. use only fully accredited embassies or nothing.
