The president of Mexico says he wants to avoid a confrontation with the United States, but had harsh words about President Donald Trump's plan to impose tariffs on Mexican goods to pressure the nation to stem the flow of Central American migrants.

Foreign minister heading here with knee pads, a little sharp stick in a written statement is hardly worth notice.

Of course, that 5% tariff on oil is going to come out of the Mexican government’s share, not US consumers - that’s a huge chunk of change and will have immediate impact on Mexico’s budget.

If it climbed to 25% that would negate all of Mexico’s oil revenues. Money that they spend to buy votes... Mexico will simply stem the tide of transients entering their country as when faced with billions in losses, they’ll turn on their southern neighbors rather than face the issue at home.
