President Trump announced Thursday he’s slapping tariffs on all goods imported from Mexico as punishment for what he darkly described as the country’s failure to combat “chaos” on the U.S. southern border.

In a Twitter statement, Trump announced a 5% tariff on all Mexican imports will start June 10. […]

The potentially economically crippling tariffs — which will be paid by American consumers of Mexican goods — are allowed under the International Emergency Economic Powers Act, Trump said.

In his statement, Trump painted the unprecedented number of migrants arriving at the U.S.-Mexico border with a broad and fear-mongering brush.

“Gang members, smugglers, human traffickers, and illegal drugs and narcotics of all kinds are pouring across the Southern Border and directly into our communities," he said. “Thousands of innocent lives are taken every year as a result of this lawless chaos. It must end NOW!” …

Control the border.

Punishing businesses and wiping out hundreds of billions of dollars of shareholder wealth is not the way to go.

Of whose shareholder wealth? Those of Red China and elsewhere who are supporting the invasion?

If he really wanted to put pressure on the Mexican government, he should (as so many others have said before) impose a tax or fee on all remittances. Mexico’s economy would grind to a halt in short order.

“Control the border.

Apparently, you’ve not noticed Congress and liberal judges who refuse to do so.

You have tens of thousands of places to invest, including investments not in the financial markets.

Trump is correct to bring the limited leverage he has to bear on the country that benefits from the US while acting against us.

Our country is being destroyed.

The wealth of American households. 25% tariffs on 350 billion goods imported from Mexico will be over $1,000 a year per household in tax hikes. Combine that with the China tariffs and Trump has proposed up to $2,000 a year in new taxes to US households.

Get your big boy pants on today.

It hurts them more than us and it teaches them a lesson.

A good start! Then double the tariff rate every week.

Keep that up until Mexico is drowning in its rotting avocados. lettuce and other fruit/veggies raised in Mexico, beer, tequila and anything else they make, brew or sell to us.

“Punishing businesses and wiping out hundreds of billions of dollars of shareholder wealth is not the way to go.”

I agree, but that’s clearly not what Trump wants to do. We have finite options, and many of those are being neutralized by the globalists on the left and right. The administration is trying to work around these roadblocks. I am personally being hurt by the recent market volatility, but there are millions of Americans who are hurt by the system as it is now. We have to find a way forward, and it may require absorbing some pain along the way.

We’ve lost way too many America lives, and spent tons of American ‘treasure’ fighting for our way of life. We can certainly take a short term hit financially while trying to stop a multiple decades long economic exploitation of America.

Good deal!

I will be glad to invest that 2 K per year to stop the illegals from destroying America and saving it for my adult children, grandkids and nieces/nephews.

Also, $crew the American crooks, who make money on the illegals.

Real Coca-Cola made with REAL sugar from Mexico.

To me, that ain’t junk. I don’t have it very often, but I like it FAR better than US Coke.

It would be cheaper if we made employers verify their employees are citizens and put the military along the boarder. $2,000 per household is around $250,000,000,000 a year.

What is the cost of illegals to the average American family? How about the cost in dollars and lives of the river of drugs coming from Mexico? What will be the cost when the democrat plan of Californiaizing the rest of the country politically is achieved? Even if I accept your $1000/year, that’s not even close to chump change compared to the cost of the status quo. If not this, then what? What hasn’t Trump tried? You tell us how else to get around the democrats, RINOs and hack judges.

Same here. I have a couple cases of real Coca-Cola, and refuse to buy the US Coke. It won't bother me to spend 5 percent more for Coke. I wouldn't buy a Ford made in Mexico, that's where 5 percent makes a big dent in the wallet.
