It wasn’t.
No correction, though.

This is another story where they (the press) heard something and dutifully reported it without checking the facts. Just like Trump fired Mueller but he actually didn’t, colluded with Russia but didn’t. Why do we even listen to this crap. It’s all propaganda.
The ship was originally named after the traitor senator’s father. But more recently the DOD or Pentagon decided to commemorate the ship in honor of the traitor, his dad, and grandfather. The father and grandfather were both admirals and served valiantly and never were responsible for the deaths of shipmates because of their incompetency.
It seems a WH reporter for the WSJ started this “ fake” story tying it to Trump himself

Grandfather and father of McStain. The ship is commissioned as named after THEM.
In July 2018 7th Fleet commander added in John McCain III, procedurally... as a “namesake” along with his kin. This was an afterthought from the commissioning of the ship, an Arleigh Burke class DDG missile destroyer.
