Eh, you could have at least made an exception for The Little Mermaid, considering that’s actually kind-of based on a draft made by Walt Disney himself and thus reflects a lot closer to his values. Not to mention it’s actually pro-family, anti-environmentalism, and has a pretty neat takedown on feminism and shows a very good contrast between conservative and liberal natures (Ariel and Ursula being the respective qualities, especially regarding how they handled the deal. Ariel had enough integrity to maintain her end of the bargain, even when she looked as though she was about to lose, while Ursula had to cheat in order to win. I know if I had my kids, that movie definitely would be the only exception other than maybe The Lion King of the post-1968 movies).
And personally, I thought Disney’s rendition was a LOT better than the original tale (I’m sorry, but as far as I’m concerned, the mermaid came across as a karma Houdini, getting what she wanted despite pretty much selling everyone down the river and leaving them with misfortune, even with her sparing the prince. She should have gone to Hell. At least Ariel cleaned up her messes and ensured everyone had a happy ending.).
Youre right. The little mermaid is an exception. It is a good one.
Disney has been filming in:
Bolivia, where abortion is illegal
Croatia, where abortion is illegal after 11 weeks
The UAE, where abortion is illegal and BEING GAY is illegal
Disney has no problem filming in any of these locations, but now suddenly Georgia is the enemy?
