I am thinking this storyline is false or inaccurate, about getting him to Sweden so as to more easily bring him to the US.
There has been a nasty deep state governing Sweden. Political correctness there surpasses even the UK.
The rape charges in Sweden were dropped, were debunked, yet they were revived. Presumably, the EU deep state who hate Trump, they want Assange to be kept out of the US where he would be a star witness against the claim that the DNC servers were hacked and for the fact that a leak from the inside (Seth Rich) caused the release of the emails.
The way to stop the extradition of Assange to Sweden would be to have a more serious charge of espionage brought against him by the US.
The UK will give him up to the US where he will be a central witness for Barr against the DNC and the Clinton mafia.

For one thing Trump had to wait until the Mueller report was done so there was no potential criminal stuff hanging over his head the Dems could pummel him with.
Second, very complex crimes committed over a few years by many people, and involving some foreign nationals and governments, is very time consuming. The investigations have to be totally wrapped up before making anything public.
That day is coming quite soon.

My theory is that the Trump team has serious doubts about Crowdstrike and the deep state "assessment" of the 2016 "Russian hacking" but, accepting that part of the Mueller report allows them to cite Mueller as evidence of Trump's innocence. If the Russia part of the report is BS, why accept the part that says no evidence of "collusion?"

No trial, certainly no public trial. And no major media reporting on him. Really, gatewaypundit is about the biggest media outlet reporting. Not on CNN, BBC, RT, Al Jazeera, and of course not on ABCCBSNBCFox. To the major media, Assange is already an unperson, same as in the old Soviet Union days.
Since he knows that Seth Rich dumped DNC info onto a USB flash drive, that destroys the whole Russian hacking/interference narrative, which President Trump has not challenged, only challenging that he, as candidate Trump, was a dupe to the Russians. And nobody talks about the known, proven Chinese hacking or invitation into Hilliary Clinton’s email server.
Nobody has revoked Brennan’s access to Top Secret and above information, even though Trump ordered it a long time ago. Plus Brennan is still briefing Demonrats on Top Secret/above disinformation, so he is the “shadow” head of the CIA, and not even in the shadows.
The Chinese were cc’ed on all but 3/4 of her 60,000 emails, including the 30,000+ that were deleted after the subpoena. So maybe Trump could ask the People’s Liberation Army, Security Division, for a copy, to be used at her trial.
Of course, the Chinese would never betray an agent like that, the way Hilliary betrayed 20 top spies for the U.S. in Chines, leading to 20 deaths (all of them) and a current lack of ability to recruit new spies (since Brennan still has his access).

If NATO did not exist, there would be no treaty to supersede UK law and you could be correct.
But the treaty does exist compelling extradition of spies.
Assange, if alive, will be extradited to the US where he will be a witness, and he will be cleared because he did nothing wrong.
The revival of the bogus Sweden rape charges is a bid by globalists to prevent his extradition to the US and so prevent his testimony. The treaty does not compel extradition for rape charges.
Assange’s dilemma is he cannot be guaranteed US immunity in exchange for testimony else the Democrats would claim interference.
If Assange’s health is as dire as reported, the matter of extradition will be moot.
I just hope when he dies, it triggers a massive data dump on info he has gathered.
