In an interview over the Memorial Day weekend, former federal prosecutor Joe diGenova told a D.C. radio station that a battle royale is taking place within the Justice Department between Attorney General William Barr and FBI Director Christopher Wray, as well as other elements of the intelligence community.
At issue, said diGenova, are efforts by Barr and the Trump administration to restore accountable government to federal law enforcement and intelligence agencies who have long been free to operate virtually independently of any real congressional and Executive Branch oversight to the point where they have become excessively corrupt.
DiGenova, who is still a practicing attorney with a law firm in D.C., said that Barr has met resistance from Wray and others within the Justice Department as he has attempted, on instructions from POTUS Donald Trump, to get to the bottom of the Spygate scandal and coup attempt that originated in the Obama administration.

Barr told Congress last month he believed "spying did occur." "I don't want to speculate," Barr said. "What I will say is I've been trying to get answers to questions and I found that a lot of the answers have been inadequate and I have also found that some of the explanations I've gotten don't hang together. In a sense I have more questions today than I did when I first started," he continued.
"The fact of the matter is [special counsel] Bob Mueller did not look at the government's activities. He was looking t whether or not the Trump campaign had conspired with the Russians. He was not going back and looking at the counter intelligence program," Barr said. "And we have a number of investigations underway that touch upon it. The main one being the office of inspector general that's looking at the FISA warrants. But as far as I'm aware, no one has really looked across the whole waterfront," he continued.
He said it's important to look into what the government was doing at the time. "I think people have to find out what the government was doing during that period. If we're worried about foreign influence for the very same reason we should be worried about whether government officials abused their power and put their thumb on the scale and so I'm not saying that happened. But I'm saying that we have to look at that."
On the Steel dossier, Barr says that it was 'unusual' for that to be the basis of an investigation.
"Well, that's one of the questions that were going to have to look at, it's unusual to have opposition research like that one that on it's face had a number of clear mistakes and jejune analysis and to use that to conduct counterintelligence against an American political campaign. I'm not sure what role it played but that's something we have to look at," he continued.
The review being conducted by the U.S. Attorney in Connecticut, John Dunham, is not a criminal probe.
Barr said there were some "very strange developments" between election day and inauguration day that the Department of Justice wants to look into those, but wouldn't go into specifics. He did highlight a Jan. 6, 2017 meeting between the president and intelligence chiefs and "the leaking of information subsequent to that meeting." -----SNIP----

Anyone nominated to head of an agency that came out of the SES ranks has to be suspect. Those that go through the SES training are all hand selected to be good little Democrat bureaucrats. It is like academia. One only gets their PHD by conducting research and publishing the material approved by the elites. Advance only occurs for those that toe the party line. The SES was a noble idea but should be abolished as should the civil service.
Having worked in and around the Intelligence Community for over 40 years, I’d like to offer a few observations:
What Barr is attempting to investigate is illegal and probably treasonous activity on the part of multiple IC agencies. (The FBI and the State Dept. are members of the IC, along with the Big Five and nine other agencies, departments and services.) National security classification guidelines clearly point out that the use of NATIONAL SECURITY CLASSIFICATION TO CONCEAL ILLEGAL ACTIVITY IS, IN AND OF ITSELF, ILLEGAL.
Christopher Wray is clearly attempting to rescue the FBI’s already piss-poor reputation. If he refuses to cooperate with Barr, he should be summarily fired and right now. I’m quite sure that Barr could come up with some suitable REAL obstruction charges for him and the same applies to Dan Coats and Gina Haspel.
By all accounts and according to some VERY reliable A-1 sources, some conspirators have already been indicted. Unseal and release those indictments and arrest the conspirators - NOW.
Finally, if Trump doesn’t deal with this decisively, he is toast and he will lose the support of those of us who waited patiently for the Mueller shit show to conclude and for justice to be done.
Barr has met resistance from Wray
Wray is a at best a deep state hack. He got a lot of Rat votes to confirm we have seen why. What traitor recommended this punk?
They didn’t give Nixon time to “get out of the mess”... how DEEP is this swamp? Barr has the go.. Trump gave him the go... if they all did wrong...and we all know they did... then carry on and get this elephant over with.. or they will go on doing what they can get by with.. at everyone’s expense!
Agreed. Pearl clutchers irritate me.
That's plenty of time for Obama to have purged all conservatives and even liberals with a pretense of loyalty to the Constitution and the Law.
Trump and Barr have a difficult task breaking down those walls.
"Just before the 2016 presidential election, The Hill reported that Federal government employees are opening their wallets to help Hillary Clinton beat Donald Trump on Nov. 8.
It checked Federal Election Commission records and reported that of the roughly $2 million given by feds in 14 agencies, about $1.9 million, or 95 percent, went to Clinton, the Democrat. It said that Department of Justicepolitical donors gave 99 percent of their money to Clinton, while at the State Department, which she once headed, only 1 percent of the reported political contributions went to candidate Trump. It said that Trump got $8,756 from Justice employees, compared to $286,797 (at that date) for Clinton. Of the political contributions from Internal Revenue Service workers, 94 percent went to Clinton.

I stand by my comment. Other than personal anecdotal views, where is your data proving otherwise?
Yep, whenever I ask who recommended Wray, Christy’s name seems to come back. And, unfortunately, the appointees who have not been on board with Trump’s agenda have done great damage, and are still doing it. I guess this is one of the disadvantages of a Swamp outsider winning the presidency. They don’t have along list of trusted, experienced DC allies to appoint to key positions.

I couldn’t agree with you more. Weeding out the massive corruption in our intelligence and law enforcement agencies is necessary to put an end to the manipulation and weaponizing of federal resources for partisan purposes. If we don’t get to the bottom of this existential threat and fumigate the place it will all happen again, and next time we may not be so lucky.
Nothing could be more important than restoring some semblance of integrity back into the government.
Trump must act DECISIVELY. Tweeting, talking and threatening isn’t going to fix the problem or allow Barr to do a timely and thorough investigation. Its time bring the hammer down (pun intended) on these people.
Wray’s mission is to protect the FBI’s method of making evidence. It the lid is ever blown off, a lot of appeals will be filed and a lot of sentences will get vacated. Example: look at Mueller, the Boston Mafia and Whitey Bulger mess and how long that was buried. Most of the country still doesn’t know about it.
I say have at it...
You need to check your enthusiasm for donor stats that seem to be your anecdotal source
It sounds impressive until you realize that $2 million is not a huge sum spread out over such a large workforce. It also doesnt differentiate among career hires vs political appointees, who of course would donate to the party that hired them. And some are wealthy enough to make sizeable donations to buy their present and future jobs
Unfortunately the civil service union is typically liberal but as we see, union members dont always follow their leaders preferences
Our 20 years of civil service experience, when politics is even discussed which it is NOT on the job, is pretty conservative, maybe because it is DoD and so many are retired or former miitary or contractor folks with similar work ethic and values as the military
It just goes to show you how deep the corruption is in Washington. It’s got to be very hard to know who to trust when most people in Washington are well versed in the art of deception.
Here are some statistics for reference
27% FedGov is union
31% of FedGov is veteran
I have no idea why Trump appointed this guy Wray?
Keep your enemies closer.
Make them feel comfortable and in charge.
Collect all their communications via FISA warrant (works both ways).
Use communications to uncover web of traitors.
Indict.
Gitmo.
Hanging.
Who among We the People would be on the side of nonaccountable government agencies?
Federal, state and local government employees.
Theres tens of millions of them. And they vote. Democrat.
The first time I heard this guy speak on TV, he oozed sleaze.
That means hes exactly the kind of guy the U.S. Senate, the most corrupt governmental body in the history of this country, would confirm.
When your appointments must be confirmed by the den of 100 Caligulas, your options can be rather limited.
You need to check your enthusiasm for donor stats that seem to be your anecdotal source

Its not a matter of “enthusiasm”; its a matter of recognizing the reality that government workers love the hand that feeds them and fear the thought of having to produce and compete in the private sector. They love their secure cocoon. And I find it odd that you characterize data from Federal Election Records as “anecdotal”.
I have worked with countless people inside a broad swath of many different federal agencies and can assure you that the vast majority of civilian employees are Democrats. Its so glaringly obvious to all but a few.
I’ve also been in the military and worked inside DoD. I do agree that that environment is a little different politically but I wouldn’t be surprised to see that it too is becoming bluer over time.
