May: I will resign on 7 June
“It is now clear to me that it is in the best interest of the UK for a new PM to lead that effort,” she says.
“I am today announcing that I will resign as Conservative leader on Friday 7 June.
“I have agreed with the party chairman that the process for electing a new leader will begin in the following week.”
UK Prime Minister Theresa Mayhas announced her resignation today after pressure on her to quit reached a critical point following her failure to win support for her Brexit deal.
The Conservative leadermade said she would stand down as Tory party leader on June 7 after meeting with the chairman of the partys key backbench committee in London on Friday morning, local time.
The 1922 Committee set the showdown meeting for Mrs May, who agreed to set a departure timetable rather than face a leadership challenge.
You came in promising "A good deal or no deal" on Brexit and you delivered neither.
Don't let the door hit you in the butt.
But she gets to be the PM at the D-Day Ceremonies, then resigns one day later?
Good riddance
Its about time.
I would have thought her resignation would be before June 3 so she could avoid an asp chewing from President Trump
Maybe she’ll get one last chance to display that British ‘stiff upper lip’
She is the worst PM in our nations history.
An evil despicable piece of crap.
I utterly detest this demon.
We will have our Brexit - today is a brilliant day for freedom.
In twenty years....virtually no one will remember this brief period of PM May. But I seriously doubt that anything really changes over the next twelve months....they will still be in the EU, and still bitter over the no-deal status that lingers.
” You have sat too long here for any good you have been doing. Depart, I say, and let us have done with you. In the name of God, go.”
Appropriate words from the past.
She will still be Prime Minister until her party chooses its new leader, which is likely to take a few weeks after June 7th.
Sad thing is that of the major nations the British had the first and best in my opinion prime minister in Margaret Thatcher. (Gilda Meir in Israel was the first but I did not consider it a major nations at the time).
Since then no other woman has had a major impact for good at that level, Markle is a power but I do not consider her a force for good in the world. She has allowed mass migration into Europe at the expense of the citizens safety, security and liberty.
We almost had Clinton that would have made Markle look like an amateur.
First to post, how many times will she announce her resignation today? /s
It is to be hoped she will announce her resignation many times to many people. :P
She resigns as party leader. She'll remain PM until a new leader is chosen. Could take a few weeks.
She sure ain’t no Margaret Thatcher.
What about Indira Gandhi?
She did a lot to counter thank idea that women can be very indecisive.
We will see about that. I’m not gonna take her word for it.
