'I don't do coverups': Trump's threat to refuse policy talks could move him closer to impeachment

The prospect of Donald Trump's impeachment is looking unlikely with Democrats divided over the issue, but the president may end up nudging them closer with the words "I don't do coverups."

Trump abruptly walked out on a meeting about infrastructure with Democratic House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer on Wednesday, refusing to negotiate on policy until Democrats stop investigating him.

His statement drew immediate comparisons to Richard Nixon's infamous "I am not a crook" denial, which came months before Congress initiated formal proceedings to level charges against him over the Watergate scandal.

"Obviously, any time the president has to say he's not a crook, he's got a problem. And there is definitely a parallel here between 'I am not a crook' and 'I don't do coverups,'" said Washington-based Democratic strategist Rachel Gorlin.

Trump uttered his defiant one-liner during a surprise Rose Garden speech lashing out at House Democrats trying to investigate him for obstruction of justice. He refused to resume talks with Democrats on a $2-trillion infrastructure bill that he himself wanted to craft.

But, Mr President, the US Congress does do coverups. One of the most recent ones is their illegally using $17,000,000.00 of taxpayer money to cover up sexual harassment accusations. Why won’t you make that list public? Don’t the American people have a right to know who was paying for these coverups and why? Isn’t it our money that was used?

Oh well, Mr. Trump, how often does the Democrat Party accuse its enemies of doing what it is currently engaged in?

The answer, Mr. President, is 100% of the time, as in right now, they’re doing it to you while they are engaged in a cover up.

The Democrats are going to try to impeach every Republican president from here on. It will become routine.

I think Trump wants them to impeach him so he can air out all their dirty laundry while the impeachment proceedings are occurring.

I’d love to find out:
* The whole Russiagate thing
* Why Dianne Feinstein’s aide for 20 years was a Chinese agent
* Why many of the House Dems were having their emails accessed from Pakistan by Imran Awan
* How Ilhan Omar married her brother
* If the Dems colluded with the IRS to take out conservative non-profits
* Why Joe Biden’s son was getting paid $100K a month by Ukrainians
* and so much more!

Also why so many members of congress become multi-millionaires on a salary of $170K/year.

The most they’ll get until their behavior changes and the dust clears is...”we’ll look into it and get back too you”....over and over and over again.

They only do it with the effective Republican presidents, such as Nixon for Watergate, Reagan (threatened for Iran-Contra) and now Trump (grab bag of legal non-offenses). Ever remember them moving against GHW Bush, GW Bush or Gerry Ford? Of course not, because they were “good guys” who didn’t rock the Establishment boat and who were totally ineffectual as presidents.

How about starting by declassifying the FISA docs without further delay? Why is he dragging his feet on releasing this exculpatory information that can turn the tables on the Dems?

Is she high on mushrooms? I do not see the “parallel”

The Dem’s need more time to excise their TDS.
The Dem’s need to think clearly when they negotiate infrastructure plans.
We do not need happy slogans like “Shovel Ready Jobs”

So, whenever the president says “I didn’t do it”, it means he is guilty of doing it? According to democrats and liberal media logic.

The president was found to not have colluded with Russians in the 2016 election. The president then went out and said he was found innocent. According to democrat logic, that means he did collude.

Nixon’s “I am not a crook” is now the logic being used to determine guilt of President Trump. How illogical is that? How deranged is that? Liberals are completely out of their minds.

They wanted to impeach George W. Bush, but the leadership did not.

“could move him closer to impeachment”

“could”, “closer” = “we don’t know it, but we want you to believe it”.

I used to listen to RCI (aka CBC on SW) early this millennium. Maybe three shows on a semi regular basis.

The content of its daily US news however, sounded exactly like it was sourced from A[merican]BC radio news in the US.

Except Trump went on to list all his cooperation with Mueller as concrete evidence he didn’t cover up. So Trump’s statement is true.

That’s what makes his statement different than Nixon’s.

Context matters.

No he does not want impeachment. He could do everything you mentioned any time he wants. What has to happen is indictments of the Obama criminals. If this does not happen soon nothing else will matter, not even 2020. America is literally breathing it’s last breaths as nation of laws.

It’s 1984

If you declare your innocence, that is basically seen as a confession of your guilt.
