McCarthyism was a beneficial, Pro America, Pro Constitutional thing.
The hard part of balancing McCarthyism with our rights is our spelled out freedoms. The left used those freedoms to destroy those freedoms. So you’re damned if you do, damned if you don’t go after those who are trying to destroy our freedoms as those very freedoms protect those who would destroy them. It’s a fine line.
