Trump used executive privilege in 'protecting the executive branch' from Congress, Levin says

President Trump asserted his executive-privilege power to protect the presidency from Congress, conservative radio host Mark Levin said Tuesday.

"So, why does the president exert executive privilege? Because he's trying to hide crimes or financial misconduct? Or, he doesn't want information to get out? No, because he's protecting the executive branch," Levin said on Fox News' "Hannity."

Earlier this month, Trump asserted his executive privilege to protect redacted information in Special Counsel Robert Mueller's report on the Russia investigation as well as the underlying evidence.

"Executive privilege can be asserted for a number of reasons, including protecting the privacy of White House deliberations," Levin told host Sean Hannity. "That is, a president [and] immediate staff - like Don McGahn, his lawyer."

Former White House counsel Don McGahn skipped a House Judiciary Committee hearing Tuesday after President Trump told him not to attend.

Executive privilege is meant to protect the privacy of the executive branch and the presidency from the congress, even from congressional subpoena. And this also includes executive communications, decision making, advisory, legal, national security info, classified info, etc, etc, etc. Even personal financial, banking and tax return info.

If they want it bad enough, they'll have to roll the dice and go for impeachment. But they will not succeed and they'll lose a lot of seats, IMHO.

Is that right? I thought there was legislation passed by Congress that prohibits said info from being released.

Yes, he’s using executive privilege to keep McGahn from testifying. I wonder if the author of the article (not Levin) has his facts straight.

The Executive branch executes the laws.
Legislative branch makes the laws.

The legislative branch is over-reaching their oversight “powers” to OBSTRUCT the executive branch. In fact, they are attempting to administer the executive branch in a clear violation of the separation of powers.

It’s important because you might not be able to have both right now, this moment.

If the material you wish released in a part of the evidence in Grand Jury deliberations brought by Durham or another prosecutor that is intended to bring indictments against Comey et. al. then it cannot be released at this time. When indictments are issued it can and then you might get both wins - political and coup-sters in jail. If you release, in violation of the law regarding Grand Jury deliberations, before the indictments are issued, then you may get the political win but forgo Commie Comey in jail part.

So you have to decide what it is you want...one or both?

I soured on Levin during the 2016 campaign as he trashed Trump constantly.

Now, he’s earned my respect back and my opinion of him has risen significantly.

Levin’s opinion is needed now more than ever!

He needs a bigger megaphone but leftist media will never let him guest because:

A) His honest assessment would force their groupthink members to reassess their assumptions

B) He can’t be effectively debated. The panelists would all be making Joy Reid faces as a last line of defense.

I wish Levin was on the Supreme Court.
