Mayor Buttigieg and the Dred Scott Democrats
American Spectator ^ | May 22, 2019 | Jeffrey Lord

Posted on 05/22/2019 5:51:17 AM PDT by Twotone

Mayor Pete Buttigieg is out of the closet — as leader of the Dred Scott Democrats.

Recall the infamous 1857 Dred Scott decision, handed down by the then-Chief Justice of the Supreme Court — the staunch Democrat Roger Taney, bold print for emphasis supplied:

We think […] that [black people] are not included, and were not intended to be included, under the word “citizens” in the Constitution, and can therefore claim none of the rights and privileges which that instrument provides for and secures to citizens of the United States. On the contrary, they were at that time [of the Constitution’s framing] considered as a subordinate and inferior class of beings who had been subjugated by the dominant race, and, whether emancipated or not, yet remained subject to their authority, and had no rights or privileges but such as those who held the power and the Government might choose to grant them. — Dred Scott v. Sandford, 60 U.S. at 404–05.

In other words, Taney in one of the most infamous decisions in the history of the Supreme Court flatly stated the view of his fellow Democrats of the day: blacks were “a subordinate and inferior class of beings” — which is to say they were not human beings. Period.

Recall as well that this view was the underpinning of the Democratic Party’s support for slavery from its creation in 1800 until slavery was outlawed in the 13th amendment to the Constitution after the Civil War in 1865. An amendment that was fanatically opposed by the Democrats.

A great term to use against Democrats. If only we could get Republicans to USE it! Then we could have another discussion about history, & which party was on which side of Slavery, Jim Crow laws & the KKK. The millenials need to be educated.

A great term to use against Democrats.

Maybe, but they would come up with a term for us that would be even more inflammatory, even if it had no basis in truth.

This is not the time to try to out-inflame the MSM-Democrats. We need to draw the contrast between them (the nutcases) and us (MAGA, jobs, and America setting the agenda for the world).

The Democratic Party was FOUNDED on racism and continues to work against different races. From the “Trail of Tears to slavery to the Civil Rights Act, Democrats have been against other races.

Drive this home when debating Liberals. Remind them of how Woodrow Wilson, the first “Progressive” President resegregated the military.

As usual, Jeffrey Lord brings a complex and emotionally-charged issue down to earth.

Bravo.

“This is not the time to try to out-inflame the MSM-Democrats.“

I disagree. Now is the perfect time to do it. They’ve gone ****house rat crazy. Boys are girls, girls are boys, abortion is a constitutional right up until the moment of birth or even afterwards if the baby survives. Illegal aliens have “rights” superior to citizens.

Call them every name in the book. They’re going to do it to us anyway. The time for the Marquis of Queensbury rules is over. This is war.

Yes, they might call us worse names.

Let’s not make them mad

This is not the time to try to out-inflame the MSM-Democrats.

Sounds like advice from the GWB wing of Republicans and we saw how well that worked didn't we?!

I agree with your assessment Lurker.

Now is definitely the time to hit back and hit back HARD until the Democrats are destroyed!

“Recall as well that this view was the underpinning of the Democratic Party’s support for slavery from its creation in 1800 until slavery was outlawed in the 13th amendment to the Constitution after the Civil War in 1865.”

I sympathize with the author's reaction to liberals having successfully used the race card and the slavery card against conservatives - and the author's desire to play the race/slavery cards “right back at them.”

I recommend against it. For one thing, slavery did not start in 1800 - it goes back further. And another thing, of the original 13 slave states, 13 of them voted to enshrine slavery into the United States Constitution. But not until Article I.

The author here is walking us down the path to toppling the Jefferson Monument. And repudiating his (Jefferson's) writings about what the Creator did.

There are strong arguments for opposing the killing of children white and black. Let's make them.

I don't see any reason to be insulting.

Call them whatever you want, knock yourselves out.

“I don’t see any reason to be insulting.”

If you feel insulted that’s on you, not me. For 20 years the GOP sat back while the most outrageous insults were, and still are, hurled at us. We finally have a President who gives as good as he gets.

And it’s about damned time. If you don’t have the stomach for it go sit on the sidelines.

Obviously you haven't read my scores of comments on that subject, in which I support your position.

Nasty, unpleasant ignorance dressed up as righteous indignation isn't going to convince anyone important. But that's obviously your strategy, and your obviously going to stick with it.

As I said, knock yourself out. You can do that without aiming nasty comments at me.

Dred Scott was one of the three worst decisions in the history of the Supreme Court. The other two are Roe v Wade, and the one that made pervert marriage legal.

The problem is, pretty much the only ones who would understand the term are already Republicans.

That is an interesting comment.

Did Dred Scott write slavery into the U.S. Constitution?
