MARACAIBO/PUNTO FIJO (Reuters) - Soldiers oversaw rationing of gasoline at service stations in several parts of Venezuela on Sunday as worsening fuel shortages forced angry drivers to wait for hours to fill their tanks, prompting protests in some areas.
Venezuela, whose economy is reeling from a five-year recession amid a prolonged political crisis, saw long lines of vehicles appear at services stations in several regions this week after a shutdown at the OPEC nations second-largest refinery.
Shortages have been exacerbated by tough U.S. sanctions on Venezuelan state oil firm Petroleos de Venezuela SA (PDVSA) in January, which have slashed crude oil exports and imports of refined fuels.

Meanwhile; their trucks siphoned dry as they bullied those at the gas stations?
Almost Occasionally Coherent can’t wait to turn US into Venezuela.
When the IRS took over Nevada’s Mustang Ranch, they didn’t make a profit.
For years.
The real reason for the shortage is near the end of the article:
Venezuelas 310,000 bpd Cardon oil refinery - which had been operating well below capacity - halted operations on Wednesday because of damage at some of its units, two workers at the PDVSA-operated complex said. That left only two refineries in operation in Venezuela.
Thanks. Now I’m going to have nightmares tonight.
Aint Socialism great? A shortage of gas in the country with the largest known reserves of oil...and in Cuba (an island) a shortage of seafood.
Most of the more contemporary ones are nothing but Deep State MK ULTRA wind-up toys.
It is al-Reuters, after all. Yes, I saw that too, and it had nothing to do with any U.S. sanctions. They've been importing refined fuels because they can't run their own refineries. And they don't have any money to do that importing that they haven't borrowed from the Russians.
First thing I do these days is a little text search on the article, especially anything from the Usual Suspects, and wouldn't you know it, "socialism" and "socialist" are nowhere to be found here. Knock me over with a feather.
Venezuela is a Russian colony.

RIO DE JANEIRO, Brazil -- Russia's push into Ukraine has put many on edge. But less known is that Russia is also strengthening its military links south of the Rio Grande and re-establishing itself as a power in the region.
Vladimir Putin has been strengthening military links here, and Russia is now the largest arms dealer to governments in Latin America, surpassing the United States.
Russia has even floated the possibility of building new military bases in Cuba, Venezuela and Nicaragua, and putting its warships permanently in the Caribbean.
In the midst of the Ukraine crisis, Russia's top diplomat Sergei Lavrov recently visited Cuba, Peru, Chile, and Nicaragua, where he announced that Russia would also pour money into the new Central American canal project. ..."

Russia agreed to provide military training for three leftist regimes in Latin America and increase military visits and exercises following a visit last week to the region by Moscow's Defense Minister Sergei Shoygu, Pentagon officials said.
Shoygu met with defense and military leaders in Cuba, Venezuela, and Nicaragua and signed several agreements on warship visits and military training during the visit, which ran from Feb. 11 to 14. It is not clear whether any new arms deals were completed during the visit.
Defense officials said the Russian leader is seeking bases in the region for strategic bomber flights that Shoygu recently promised would include flights over the Gulf of Mexico and Caribbean.

Venezuela sits on the greatest proven oil reserves in the world, actually greater than Saudi. Years ago I worked there in oilfield exploration and this is real.
This is a perfect example of the failure of Marxism.
“Venezuelas 310,000 bpd Cardon oil refinery - which had been operating well below capacity - halted operations on Wednesday because of damage at some of its units, two workers at the PDVSA-operated complex said. That left only two refineries in operation in Venezuela.”
Precisely correct. The engineers and technicians that know how to run the refinery have left due to Marxism. They now work in many other nations that value their skills.
When I lived in Venezuela in the seventies the worlds finest and modern refinery was operating near where I lived. Today it is a shambles. This is the face of Marxism of economic collapse, hunger, violent oppression, and death of dissenters by government murder squads.
Russia is spreading itself thinly. That is the mistake the Soviets made.
The Russians have forged a closer than ever military alliance with China. Unfortunately, very few people are paying attention or reporting on it. You won’t likely hear many if any details on this from Hannity, Limbaugh or Levin. My guess is that it’s too complex for them to want to bother with. And also they might think their audiences would be bored with it. Might have a point there, as critically important as it is.
