This is a big deal - what we knew on Saturday night was that the conservative government would be returned, but it might have been as a minority government having to rely on the support of minor party and independent members. That was much better than the Labor government all the polls had been predicting, so was cause for celebration by itself.
But majority government - even by one seat - makes things so much easier.
Hopefully the Coalition doesn’t harbor creatures like Mitt Romney or Juan McLame...
It’s called the Trump Effect
Should the Senate swing be roughly the same?
Thanks naturalman1975.
My friend and business partner down under says: Sanity has prevailed.
WENTWORTH! I’M OVER THE MOON!
Aussie, Aussie, Aussie! ....... Oi!, Oi!, Oi!
It takes weeks - literally - to get final results for the Senate due to the number of candidates (there were 82 in my state) and our complicated preferential voting system.
But we do have early indications, and it’s looking like the conservative coalition will have two more Senators than before, and when you add in other minor conservative parties - it won’t be a conservative majority, but it is likely to be a better Senate than we have now from that perspective.
We have our share of people like that - but the most prominent of them decided not to run this time, rats deserting what they thought was a sinking ship. So this should be less of a problem - touch wood.
I’ll repeat what I wrote on the other thread: Maybe the new government can send Ambassador Downer over here to answer some questions.
Now is the time to get a nice trade deal with Japan, Vietnam, Korea, the Philippines, and India, like President Trump will be focusing on shortly. Everyone should be putting pressure on China, at minimum for mutually fair intellectual property rules.
And I will repeat the same answer I gave there.
Its the same government.
And Alexander Downer was Australias longest serving Foreign Minister, John Howards Foreign Minister, and a former leader of the party that is now in government.
This conspiracy theory about him that is circulating in the United States is frankly, utterly ridiculous.
I’m happy that sane people voted Liberal. Funny thing to say, but the Conservatives won...
Ozzie, Ozzie, Ozzie... Oi Oi Oi!
"Australia! Australia! Australia! We love you, Amen!"
This, exactly. God save Australia! The voters have done their part!
They needed at least 76.
Sorry, but he was a Clinton foundation donor and was part of the effort with Mufsud and Halper to set up Papadopoulos.
77 out of how many?
