Michigan congressman Justin Amash becomes first GOP lawmaker to call for impeachment

U.S. Rep. Justin Amash of Michigan on Saturday became the first Republican lawmaker to say President Trump had "engaged in impeachable conduct." In a series of tweets, Amash wrote he had read the full report by special counsel Robert Mueller and had concluded there is a "threshold for impeachment."

"Under our Constitution, the president 'shall be removed from Office on Impeachment for, and Conviction of, Treason, Bribery or other high Crimes and Misdemeanors,'" Amash wrote Saturday. "While 'high Crimes and Misdemeanors' is not defined, the context implies conduct that violates the public trust."

Amash also wrote that impeachment does not require "probable cause" has been committed, but rather "simply requires a finding that an official has engaged in careless, abusive, corrupt or otherwise dishonorable conduct."

After Mueller concluded his report in mid-March, Attorney General William Barr released a four-page summary, which Amash said "deliberately misrepresented" the full 448-page report. "Barr's misrepresentations are significant but often subtle, frequently taking the form of sleight-of-hand qualifications or logical fallacies, which he hopes people will not notice," he wrote.

Amash wrote that, contrary to Barr's initial assessment of Mueller's report, Mr. Trump had "engaged in specific actions and a pattern of behavior that meet the threshold for impeachment.

Congress, too, was not spared from criticism by Amash. He called out the partisanship of many lawmakers, saying they shift their perceptions "180 degrees" when discussing former President Bill Clinton and Mr. Trump.

"Few members of Congress even read Mueller's report; their minds were made up based on partisan affiliation — and it showed, with representatives and senators from both parties issuing definitive statements on the 448-page report's conclusions within just hours of its release," Amash wrote.

Justin Amash’s political stunt is as disgusting as dropping a load on San Francisco’s putrescent sidewalks. I hope his effort at attention gets the necessary cleanup detail by the American electorate.

“the context implies conduct that violates the public trust.”

The man is an idiot.

IF - and that is a giant IF - team Trump had actually colluded with Putin (which the Mueller team found they did not), then and only then could any of Trump’s actions have been deemed actions that were trying to prevent discovery of such collusion - an “obstruction” case would have a base; but it doesn’t.

Ttump’s actions were that of an innocent man protesting his innocence, protesting the waste of government resources in a conerted attack on his presidency based on a hoax claim orchestrated by Billary, Inc. and aided and abetted by the Obama administration.

If any persons should be held accountable for obstructive of justice, you’d have to start with Obama and take it on down and accross the DOJ, FBI and CIA.

Imp was right when he opposed Amash in that primary back 8 or 10 years ago.

I can only surmise that the Palestinian Christians lost a lot (in terms of property and social position) in 1948. In other countries, I’m sure it’s a mixture of “going with the majority”, and also seeing Jews as potential rivals for “trusted minority” status.

But you do have a point...my family had a friend from church that taught at the American university in Beirut during the Lebanese Civil War, especially during the 1980s when Americans were prime targets. He said that many of the PLO supporters he knew over there were, in fact, Christian.

He’s not antisemite, he IS a semite.

What he is is anti-Jew and anti-Israel.

I opposed Amash’s 2010 congressional run even before I learned that he was a Paultard: http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/news/2463175/posts

I didn’t comment in that thread, but I do remember it. Ex-State Sen. Bill Hardiman would’ve been far better (I believe I endorsed him). He would’ve been Gubernatorial or Senatorial material in the 9 years since, had he won the nomination and seat.

Update: It looks as if GOP state representative Jim Lower will run for Congress in MI-93 (in the GOP prinary against Amash, unless Amash forgoes reelection to attempt a Liberaltarian spoiler run for president). https://mobile.twitter.com/Politics1com/status/1130448527241490432?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw%7Ctwcamp%5Eembeddedtimeline%7Ctwterm%5Eprofile%3APolitics1com&ref_url=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.politics1.com%2F

I’d rather have a candidate from Kent County (where most of the CD’s voters live) rather than from Ionia County (which is from where Lower hails), but I’d definitely take Lower over Amash.

I’d take a ficus plant over Amash. What a disgrace.

I just noticed he looks like a midget version of Jonah Ryan and also kinda like Fard Mohammed who founded Nation of Islam who wasn’t Black (most likely he was part Maori, from New Zealand).

I think most of us non-dipsticks came to oppose him even as other freepers were giving us guff for it and screaming “YOU ARE a GOPE SHILL !!!!!! Jussie is a “TRUE CONSERVATIVE”™. A sphincter says what?

I nominate him for Ambassador to Gaza. Stick him in a crate and airlift him in.

Now, he needs to have ONE STRONG challenger not 7 nobodies. I hope Lower is that guy.

BTW, the man himself, Ron “Laroosh” Paul, Jussie’s Guru, has endorsed TULSI GABBARD. Didn’t see that posted on FR. How embarrassing for Rand.

Paulbots need to eff off. Tom Massie, you better pull your head out of your butt or you are next pal. If you didn’t know Massie votes for Amash for Speaker.
