Taiwan gay marriage: Parliament legalises same-sex unions

Taiwan's parliament has become the first in Asia to legalise same-sex marriage following a vote on Friday.

In 2017, the island's constitutional court ruled that same-sex couples had the right to legally marry.

Parliament was given a two-year deadline and was required to pass the changes by 24 May.

Lawmakers debated three different bills to legalise same-sex unions and the government's bill, the most progressive of the three, was passed.

Thousands of gay rights supporters gathered in the rain outside the parliament building in the capital, Taipei, to await the landmark ruling.

There were shouts of joy and some tearful embraces as the result was announced.

However, conservative opponents were angered by the vote.

What does the bill entail?

The two other bills, submitted by conservative lawmakers, refer to partnerships as "same-sex family relationships" or "same-sex unions" rather than "marriages".

But the government's bill, also the only one to offer limited adoption rights, was passed by 66 to 27 votes - backed by lawmakers from the majority Democratic Progressive Party.

It will take effect after Taiwan's President Tsai Ing-wen passes it into law.

Several same-sex activists had said ahead of the vote that this was the only version they would accept.

"I'm very surprised - but also very happy. It's a very important moment in my life," Jennifer Lu, chief co-ordinator of rights group Marriage Equality Coalition Taiwan, told the BBC.

"However, it's still not full marriage rights; we still need to fight for co-adoption rights, and we are not sure about foreigner and Taiwanese marriage, and also gender equality education.

"It's a very important moment, but we are going to keep on fighting. We are Taiwanese and we want this important value for our country, for our future," she added.

Now the 12 gay couples can go and rush in....marry up....and find that no one really cares....with half of them divorcing in six months because the celebrity status disappeared rather quickly.

It’s rejected everywhere it’s voted on.

Almost makes you believe in conspiracy theories... like global population control.

Yeah. A country with demo-suicidal or sui-genocidal, still-collapsing fertility rate of 1.13, and an average female age of 42 (decades past peak fertility, with many perimenopausal)--- is gonna help themselves survive by OK'ing ---shall we say socially dignifying --- anal penetration as an alternative to normal fertile sex?

It's all part of the Culture of Death. They evidently don't want to go on.

I wonder if the under-3% who are Christians are doing better than average? I don't know if I dare hope.

In this area, the communist mainlanders are doing better. How did Taiwan end-up with a court like that? Who was asleep at the switch?

The big question, to me: Why is this stuff happening all around the world at approximately the same time?

I believe it’s the population-bombers. They don’t want humans reproducing. They’ll do anything to stop it, including the catastrophic derangement of species-normal sexuality, gender, and sex.

...." Why is this stuff happening all around the world at approximately the same time?".....

It's Biblical.

Scripture is clear what is coming. As Americans, we look at everything like we are the lead dog. When Jesus comes, He will judge the whole world, not just one or two countries. Jesus told us, in red writing, that He would return, as it was in the days of Noah, and as it was in the days of Lot. As it was in the days of Lot means widespread acceptance of sodomy. If we read Genesis 19:4 again, we see the whole town showed up to either participate in or watch the 2 angels get raped. Sodomy was accepted by everyone. Sodomy has been with us since Gen 6:1 when the Nephilim were born, but it became widely accepted in Sodom. As it was in the days of Noah means widespread DNA editing. The Nephilim were a corruption of human DNA and angel DNA. This made the seed war declared in Genesis 3 a loser for God and a winner for Satan because the seed of the woman had been corrupted. Right after we read Gen 6, Noah and the Flood is introduced to kill everything that breathes on the earth, save the remnant on the Ark. After the Flood, Nimrod was the first Nephilim identified. The corrupt DNA was brought on the Ark possibly by Ham's wife. The 3 sons got their wives from the nearby town to keep the population going. God said ALL FLESH was corrupted except Noah. Ham had the bad seed and it showed up in Canaan.

The point of all of this is God is a jealous God. When Jehovah looked at His Creation, He said It was good. When it was spoiled, it was no longer good. If we start juggling DNA to make mystery meat, crops that won't catch a disease, design babies with blue eyes, make soldiers that run faster and bleed less when wounded, we are changing God's Creation. Romans 1:18-23, God tells us we are corrupting the image of His creation so He will give us up to a reprobate mind. The first sign of that is homosexuality in vs 24-32. The spread of homosexuality is like a kitchen timer ticking towards the Judgement of God. Carnal people can't draw a connection between sodomy and the corruption of God's Creation, but Romans 1 makes it perfectly clear that we aren't glorifying God as Creator(evolution). If we would glorify God as Creator, sodomy would be at the 1950's level in the world because there is a direct correlation between faith and levels of corruption. If we understood that God created us to mate only with other humans to procreate other humans, Judgement would be put off. We are to bring forth fruit of our kind and other fruit will bring forth fruit of it's kind. If a human mates with a sheep, there is no resulting sheep/human. That is the will of God. But today, if we see a need for a sheep's heart we edit the DNA to make a heart that can be used in a human. People say stupid things like a monkey's DNA is 99.9% the same as human, but fail to explain that if we have sex with a monkey, there will be no offspring from that union. We can now edit the DNA in a lab to make chimera's that God didn't sanction. That is the same thing the Nephilim did in Gen 6. IMHO, that explains the dinosaurs and other freakish animals that are mostly extinct now. This also explains the dino's did NOT make it to the ARK. Noah didn't pick the animals that would survive on the Ark, but God led the animals He wanted to survive to the Ark. Noah was on the Ark 7 days before the rain started.

There is a proverb that Peter made famous saying a dog returns to his own vomit. A dog in Scripture represents lost people. God knows a lost Gentile will desire to go back to homosexuality and DNA editing. It makes them feel "God like"and they are in rebellion to God as Satan is. The original sin in the Garden was to leave servant hood of tending the Garden for God, but becoming like gods.(a Satanic trait picked up from demonic DNA in Gen 6)( actually, it may have started in Gen 4:26 where it says They started to defile the name of the Lord when Enosh was born) Lost people are constantly in rebellion to God about everything. God made us as we are when we are born, but until we submit to God, we have body modifications, tattoo's, drugs, dressing weird, or anything that makes us different than what God made us. Wild people are in constant rebellion acting as their own God until they finally are jailed, executed, or kill themselves or others. Ask yourself, what could possibly make a person desire to split their tongue like a snake other than a desire to not be a human like God made them? A homosexual feels the same urge. They don't want to be what God made them and will fight it to the death. Instead of suicide, why not just be celibate? They don't think that way. They will gamble with HIV and Hep C rather than conform.

Not true. Several countries in Europe voted to approve, most recently Ireland. Remember that in a Republic, the voters act through their representatives. Even so, there were six states in the US that approved gay marriage by popular referenda. And when the Supremes legalized it, I didn’t see people pouring into the streets to protest either.

Of course the real reason this bill passed is a bunch of activist federal judges in Taiwan declared gay marriage was a "right" and ORDERED the legislature to pass a bill "updating" the marriage laws within two years.

Interesting how that always seems to be the case.

Unlike the United States, thousands took to the streets to protest the government legalizing gay marriage in France. Even some openly gay people marched against it. It certainly "changed my view of France" a LOT more than Sarkozy vacationing here and giving lip service about how much he "loves America" did.

Seems the rank and file French citizens have much more integrity than their politicians do.

Because when it WAS voted down but prop 8 the leftist and gays hunted down those who supported prop 8 and ostracized them and destroyed their careers and businesses.

Fear and hate tactics work wonders, don’t they?

Conservative Americans aren’t much for street protesting. Jobs and kids get in the way.

“...activist judges...”

The judiciary is the main catalyst for many of the problems that we have today.
