Trump Tells Pentagon Chief He Does Not Want War With Iran

President Trump has told his acting defense secretary, Patrick Shanahan, that he does not want to go to war with Iran, according to several administration officials, in a message to his hawkish aides that an intensifying American pressure campaign against the clerical-led government in Tehran must not escalate into open conflict.

Mr. Trump’s statement, during a Wednesday morning meeting in the Situation Room, came during a briefing on the rising tensions with Iran. American intelligence has indicated that Iran has placed missiles on small boats in the Persian Gulf, prompting fears that Tehran may strike at United States troops and assets or those of its allies.

No new information was presented to the president at the meeting that argued for further engagement with Iran, according to a person in the room. But Mr. Trump was firm in saying he did not want a military clash with the Iranians, several officials said.

I suspect some of this is public misdirection and stories planted in the media by people inside the Trump administration ... with the Washington Post serving as the media platform for the “globalists/hawks” and the NYT running stories from the “nationalists.”

I like the part where the company we overthrew Iran’s elected government to help (BP) later caused the worst oil spill in US history in the Gulf.

Very good point. That's irony like a ship's anchor. :-)

typical anonymous bullshit from NYT, so who knows what the truth of the matter is ... actually, my guess is NYT is publishing this in the hopes of emboldening them to increase the probability of war with Iran by making them think Trump has taken some options off the table ...

Of COURSE it’s fake news. It’s the New York Times citing unnamed “administration officials”.

It is amazing, they are reaching the point of not even coming close to being news.

You’ve read enough of WaPo and NYT to reliably correlate this? And your eyeballs haven’t burnt out of their sockets? Wow. Canadians are tough. Or at least their eyeballs are.

Mohammad Mosadegh was overthrown because of the fear that Iran without the Shah would move toward an alliance with the Soviet Union. Given he temper of the times, the incipient Cold War, there was no way that the US was going to allow a Soviet-Iran relationship that would effect the long held Russian dream, a warm water port to its south.

They’ve held the Black Sea since Peter The Great, just south of Odessa in the Uk...oh, never mind.

There is nothing wrong with war against a long time enemy as long as you have the will to win.

I’ll have to remember that the next time some retarded baboon in the White House goes on TV and proclaims that the U.S. must invade a foreign country “to support freedom and democracy around the world.”

And did the Russian Navy control the outlet to the Med? It did not. Thus, the Black Sea was just a large lake.

President Trump sure as heck better find out who's responsible for this false flag. I read somewhere that the original intel about Iran planning an attack came from Israel, with some verification from US intel. How could President Trump believe this stuff?

I was livid when he fell for the false flags to keep the fighting going on in Syria. President Trump should by now know that our Mideast "friends" keep ginning up war that benefit them, not us.

War with Iran would be a mistake.

Better to train and arm internal insurgents to bring long overdue justice to the Mullahs.

Need to do the same in Venezuela.

Depends what you mean by “war”. I think turning their nuclear facilities into dust via air power is more than warranted.

Here’s the root of the problem:

The Muslim conquest of Persia, also known as the Arab conquest of Iran,[2] led to the end of the Sasanian Empire of Persia in 651 and the eventual decline of the Zoroastrian religion.

Destroy their military infrastructure from the air with drones.
