RIYADH The Joint Forces Command of the Coalition to Restore Legitimacy in Yemen carried out several air strikes on Houthi targets in the Yemeni capital Sanaa on Thursday after the Iranian-aligned militants claimed responsibility for drone attacks on Saudi oil installations.
A coalition statement carried by the Saudi Press Agency said the air strikes were against a number of legitimate military targets, which military intelligence confirmed were military bases and facilities used by the Iranian-backed Houthi militias for weapons and ammunition storage. "The air operations achieved their objectives," statement added.
The coalition stressed that the attacks by the Iranian-backed terrorist Houthi militias on vital facilities in the Kingdom were a violation of international humanitarian law and amounted to war crimes.
"The coalition forces are resolved to follow all terrorist elements across all of Yemen, and will be resolute to target all locations from which terrorist attacks are initiated," the statement said.
The coalitions operations will continue in accordance with international humanitarian law and its customs till achieving the objective of neutralizing these legitimate military targets, the statement added. SG/SPA
Great. As long as no Americans were involved.
This must be costing Iran billions!
“Houthi” Who? “Sanaa” Where? /s (I read it)
You can learn something “new” everyday. (new AND useless)
Shows we don’t need to start a war with Iran to protect our oil supply. The Iranian bark is bigger than its bite.
GCC Coalition.
Moar WINNING.
So, is this just a continuation of the 1300 year old war between Sunni and Shia moslems?
No. While the Suni Shia conflict might be involved, the present stakes involve wealth and power. To reduce it to a suni/shia conflict indicates a lack of understanding.
The mullahs in iran do have been kicked out of Mecca and the Haij. However they covet the wealth and power of the GCC nations. The UAE gities of Dubai and Abudhabi are extremely wealthy. They are home to companies from all over the world. They distribute to everywhere east. They have immeasurable cash flow.
They are a major tourist destination. They have the tallest building in the world. Their airline is one of the top air freight lines exitant.
Iran has none of that
And yet Iran cowardly does nothing except incite surrogates
(then there is Israel. Israel is part of the military coalition against Iran but don’t tell anybody)
Actually we’re only about 2 years away from self-sufficiency of oil, thanks to Frackiing and Trump....and we could bridge most of that with the Strategic Reserve.
That's a wrong statement and also an oversimplification.
The Houthis are Zayidis, a branch of Shia Islam that is very, very close in beliefs to Sunni Islam and distant from the 12er Shia Islam of the Iranians.
To elaborate: After Mo, there was fighting between ummayyads and Mo's son-in-law who would be boss. Part of Ali (Mo's grandson) called the Shi'ali lost and retreated, while the Sunnis (following the Sunnah) won.
The Shia also split into folks who held to the 12 "righteous imams" or some who said there were only 7 (the Zayidis) or into Ismailis/Bohris
The Zayidis are in Yemen and had their own state, North Yemen during the cold war.
North And south united in 1990
The fight in Yemen is between the ex-President and the new-president and the new President is supported by the Sauds/Emiratis
iran see's it as a way to bleed the Sauds but, since the ports are all controlled by the SAuds/Emiratis, there is no materiel coming in from Iran
The houthis are NOT Iranian surrogates - they get probably noises from Iran but nothing else and their struggle is not dependent on Iran.
They don't hide behind women and children - the Sauds indiscriminately bomb everyone
Venezuela has more oil reserves than Saudi Arabia and they don’t consider us infidels. Just saying.
That is a long issuance of hot air.
Yes of course they hide behind women and children
From a supposedly secure area they sent drones to bomb Saudi pipeline installations.
The Houthis are in fact Iranian surrogates just like Hamas and Hezbollah
you haven’t given any proof for your claims, which are false.
1. “Of course they” - without proof is a democrat ploy. No, the Houthis aren’t hiding behind their own women and children - for the simple reason that the Saudis blowign up women and children doesn’t get any Western outcry (unlike the palestinians), so no point. And there is zero instance of them doing that in any case.
2. “They are Iranian surrogateS” - again, devoid of any proof beyond Irani verbal support. They get no materiel from the Iranians and the Iranians are unable to get that to them.
If you have any proof for your false statements, put it up or admit you’re wrong.
Proof......?
Saudi Arabia and the UAE have repeadedly struck Houthi targets in Yemen. That is all the proof that is required. The targets were struck in retaliation to Houthi fire Iranian made missiles striking Riyadh.
You can pretend to be a sanctimonious Iran defender but you are seriously wrong. Is John Kerry paying you?
The Saudis and Emiratis want their own proxy to control Yemen as a whole. Their proxy supports the Islamic state of south Arabia.
That is not proof of Iranian involvement rather of MBS willingness to kill women and children for his own Wahabbi glory.
The Iranians are unable to give any kind of weaponry to the Houthis as the ports are controlled by the Emiratis.
And the Houthi ie Zayidi revolt dates to North Yemen days and they are definitely not Irani proxies
