LOS ANGELES — A federal judge Tuesday rejected attorney Michael Avenatti’s request for a public defender to represent him in a case alleging he stole millions of dollars from clients, cheated on his taxes and committed bank fraud.
Judge James Selna denied the request without providing a reason on the eve of Avenatti’s appearance in U.S. District Court in Santa Ana, California, on the issue of who will represent him.

First reaction is he’s in terrible trouble needing to use a public defender. But some of the federal defenders are quite good.
Still, he’s in such a mess that he can’t even reveal his finances to justify getting a public defender.
Reap what you sow. And the prostitute is probably doing God knows what tonight to pay the money she owes the President.
Good. He can have a fool for a client.

As much of a sleazeball as he is, the judge is still violating his rights. We need fewer black-robed tyrants, remember?
But he doesn’t have time to go to trial - there is a Very Important Election coming up, and the people need him! :)

What rights are being violated?

If he revealed his finances it would just expose him to more criminal charges.
Maybe CNN can pay his lawyer. They were 100% his biggest supporters. Where did they go?
Avenatti’s rights are not being violated. He has substantial assets that have been seized and point to net worth. He’s not destitute. Heck, he spent the past two years on TV telling the world what a scintillating legal mind he is. Let him represent himself.
What assets does he have if they’ve been seized?
I’d say the judge can probably answer that question with specificity. Avenatti probably walked into court with enough pawnable jewelry to pay a lawyer with.

it was either a timeshare or a lease ... he didn’t ACTUALLY own it ...
