But the co-op also has around 75 employees, who say the realities of the socialist system are a far cry from Marx's utopia.

Welcome to reality.

If Marx had perfect people, his system may have worked.

He didn't and it doesn't.

Will the union organizers be jailed like typical in communist countries?

If Marx had perfect people, his system may have worked.

Even then it would not have worked.

Trying to deal with all the "ifs, ands or buts" that make life so complicated is beyond the ability of anyone outside of God Almighty.

With the best will in the world it just would not work.

“If Marx had perfect people, his system may have worked. He didn’t and it doesn’t.”

No “system” with that amount of concentrated power works. Collapse/revolution is inevitable with any system unless power of the leadership is checked at every step.

The principle of the Founding Fathers was to keep “the system” as minimal as possible for the most necessary functions. Unfortunately, that idea barely lasted 100 years in the USA.

The Founders unfortunately also did not predict the rise of global megacorporations that grew powerful enough to become the defacto government. Big banks have control of the nation’s finances and property. Military contractors have pushed us toward war. Big Agriculture creates nutrition guidelines.

And until the internet became the dominant media, a small group of oligarchs began to weild near total control over our culture. Beaming “programming” into every home in the country. The rot seemed unstoppable for several decades.

If the oligarchs do take control of the internet as they have been trying, the USSR will one day seem like a walk in the park...
