Now that President Trump has been exonerated of the false accusations of collusion and obstruction, it is time to investigate the investigators.
The White House has justly praised the outcome of special counsel Robert Mueller's investigation for clearing the president of the odious charges that have hung over his presidency since even before his inauguration. The Mueller report overall was favorable to the president, but it also should be remembered as the Mueller special counsels final abuse of power. There were nearly 200 pages of irrelevancies about Russia collusion, but it couldnt disguise the fact that all of those alleged contacts between the Russians and the Trump campaign amounted to nothing, legally or substantively. And the fact remains that the institutional climate in the Justice Department has been so hostile to the president that we can be certain that, if there had been even a scintilla of evidence supporting a criminal indictment, it would have been pursued.
Liberal members of Congress and their media allies are furious with Attorney General William Barr because he blew up the Mueller report smear job before it was out of the box. The Mueller team wanted to drop its 448-page bomb on the American people, who then would have had to sort through the innuendo and fake legal analysis without context. To his great credit, the attorney general imposed necessary discipline on the release, explaining to Congress and the American people in stark terms that there was no collusion and no obstruction. For this truth-telling, he faces impeachment threats, not plaudits, from the Democratic-media swamp.
The continuing argument over obstruction fits with the evident agenda of the anti-Trump Mueller team to create lingering political difficulties for the president, even though he has been cleared of legal jeopardy. Some of the Mueller operations so-called obstruction theories are ridiculous, such as that the president could not object to being targeted for investigation. Is it now a crime for someone falsely accused to be upset about it? Mueller presumes guilt and then refuses to exonerate President Trump. This turns our legal system upside down and shows the rule of law is no bar to smearing President Trump.
What is missing from the Mueller report is an honest discussion about the origins of the unverified hearsay in the Steele dossier that formed the underpinning of the unprecedented spying effort against Trump and his campaign. But looking ahead, the Steele dossier, its genesis and the actions of members of the Obama administration who exploited it to target the Trump campaign, are very much in the crosshairs. Justice Department Inspector General Michael Horowitz's investigation of the abuse of the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act process will soon conclude, and may result in criminal referrals. Attorney General Barr also promises an even broader investigation of "Spygate" abuses.
And the abuses were not limited to the Justice Department. The U.S. intelligence community was politicized to an extent never seen in history; the State Department played a role in pushing the sham collusion story. And President Obama almost certainly knew about and approved the spying being conducted on the Trump campaign.
Judicial Watch is not waiting for government investigators, however. We have pending approximately 50 Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) lawsuits seeking information on the anti-Trump coup.
Judicial Watch has, to date, pursued more than 40 FOIA lawsuits in an effort to get to the bottom of the "Russiagate" hoax, including dozens explicitly dealing with the illicit targeting and other abuses of power against President Trump. We also have 10 lawsuits dealing with the Mueller investigation specifically because this assault on the rule of law is a dire threat to our republican form of government.
Tom Fitton is president of Judicial Watch, a conservative nonprofit educational foundation.
Fitton and JW are doing the work that the feckless Republican House SHOULD have done during their two years in the majority.
Tom Fitton is incredible and, together with President Trump, may actually save the Republic (or delay its demise).
JW deserves our donations.
Seems to me everything needed to arrest a couple dozen people at the FBI and DOJ was published in a book by Bongino a year ago. Whats the hold up?
Trump winning the election was all the pretext that the Left needed to launch this coup attempt. They thought that all of their voter fraud would make Hillary’s coronation a sure thing.
Fine. But can anyone identify just who within the Federal government is investigating, indicting or is in a position to prosecute Comey, Brennan, Clapper, Lynch and McCabe. Where is the heat? These lowlifes who betrayed their oaths and offices to perpetuate this dastardly plot remain free and arrogant. Sadly they have no fear of actually being arrested because Trump still does control the levers of power.
There is a lot of blame to go around.... AND a great many people who(though they didn’t participate) are guilty by their very proximity to the crimes.
Why? They were so close to the s&^t, that they’re covered with it and still smell. They are guilty for not blowing the whistle.
“Fitton and JW are doing the work that the feckless Republican House SHOULD have done during their two years in the majority.”
Also the work that press ought to be doing. I’m puzzled how JW’s FOAIs get so much that Congress missed. I have to conclude that government officials take Judicial Watch more seriously than they do Congress.
Tom Fitton is tough, smart, and tenacious.
...everything our elected idiot Pubbies are not.
We seem to know pretty much everything. What we need is an investigation that puts people under oath to confirm the facts.
To me it looks like we have all the names, links, and information to open an investigation.
Why hasn't it been done?
Since Republicans aren't seizing the moment to strike and take down Democrats I have to believe some are Republicans who don't want an investigation.
The Deep State is the UniParty. This is about protecting their own.
JW has done and is doing an incredible job.
“Im puzzled how JWs FOAIs get so much that Congress missed”
That’s what gets me too. It tells me that Congress is just not serious about getting to the bottom of this scandal. Perhaps with the exception of Nunes and Jordan, but even those great guys are NOWHERE near as effective as Fitton.
Maybe, as you suggest, people in government are more afraid of what will happen to them if they ignore FOIA demands than if they ignore Congressional demands.
Why no arrests?
Arrests could have started 2years ago. But the cases in the public arena would have been comparatively weak compared to todays pile of evidence.
Every week I find out more important information about the coup attempt. When the arrests start, there has to be blood in the streets, not legal cases where the traitors have wiggle room to attempt to cast doubt.
We need 10 to 20 year sentences, not book tours for the guilty.
#lockthemallup
Lets start with whoever signed / approved the FISA warrant based on the Steele dossier. That would be de-facto perjury and obstruction of justice.
Is there any lawful law in DC? Land of High Criminals and Traitors...
“JW deserves our donations.”
That bears repeating! Give your money to Fitton, not some worthless RINO! He really is working for you!
“Lets start with whoever signed / approved the FISA warrant based on the Steele dossier. That would be de-facto perjury and obstruction of justice.”
I believe that that was DAG Rosenschmeckel, who just “retired!”
“We need 10 to 20 year sentences, not book tours for the guilty.”
Better still, utilize the lamp posts on Pennsylvania Avenue! These are treasonous acts which should carry the death penalty in many cases.
Tom Fitton isn’t even a lawyer, which is a good thing. He runs rings around all those so called attorneys in Congress.
I’ve started a modest monthly donation to Trump, first ever in my entire life. I may do the same for Fitton.
