I, for one, hope they keep the shenanigans up. People, except hardcore Dems and leftists, can see through all the mumbo jumbo .

We are being Zerg rushed at the border. More are pouring in now than even under Obama. Time to start winning. Without shutting it down, none of the other issues matter.

Is the border considered secure when thousands are being brought in and released into the country under Catch and Release? What does it actually mean....border is secure?

Yeah, I’m not really clear on what he meant. It’s sounds very Baghdad Bob as it stands.

Border security is in the eyes of the beholder. To me, border security means nobody can cross. Asylum seekers are kept in Mexico. Nobody is released into the country. Unless there’s a barrier in place everywhere, Catch and Release is stopped, and nobody comes in except those already legally allowed to enter, the border is not secure.

"The troops currently help with various night vision equipment, nursemaid illegals and their brats"

True. They also free up some Border Patrol officers by pulling the shifts watching the cameras, driving trucks, and some flight operations.

There is also an ongoing Engineer component of the deployment, to harden Ports of Entry and emplace concertina. About 200 miles of concertina have been put in.

LA Times reports today:

“Homeland on Friday submitted another request for Pentagon assistance, defense officials said Saturday. That request, which has not previously been disclosed, is for shelter for detained migrants, and would include tents to be set up but not secured by an undetermined number of military troops, according to the officials, who spoke on condition of anonymity to discuss internal planning.”

Earlier, DHS requested that DOD identify 5,000 spaces to house unaccompanied children.

Perhaps they are preparing for a policy change of some sort.

I hope someone else remembers but a number of years ago, we had troops on the border and there was an incident where a soldier shot an illegal crosser who was a teenager. That may explain some reluctance on the part of the Army to become an active participant in border security.

A big point that SecDef made, was that he wants DHS to have their own capability to secure the border, without having to call DoD for help.

A contingency contract, like the Army’s LOGCAP (Logistics Civil Augmentation Program), could be set up for them, that would enable them to quickly bring in commercial assets, if the have the money.

That kind of in-house might help them in the future if they have a SecDef or a President who is not so supportive.

That’s a good point, it would be an improvement over what they have now.

I don’t see Mexico ceasing to be a threat anytime soon
...............................................
Mexico is a threat because it’s governments are now being run by the cartels. Otherwise it is a toothless tiger.

Since the purpose of the military is national defense it would make sense to leave them there in perpetuity since I don’t see Mexico ceasing to be a threat anytime soon

Partner, we are in agreement!!!

Partner, The Mexican government has been one of the most corrupt governments for over 100 years at least.

The DHS that W. put together after 9/11 was a farce and we should have shut down the border with our Military in 2001, instead of rushing right now to build that 30' Tall Wall at our border since there are no fences or a joke of a fence along our southern border with Mexico.

The Illegal Aliens that are coming through are also corrupt to the core since they have been living in a corrupt country. Briberies, theft, drug traffic, Etc., Etc.

We will have over 50 million Illegal Aliens after fence is built this is why we need the Military at our border.

Notice how all these problems have been heaped upon President Trump. Of course, thank God that President Trump thrives on fixing a lot of our countries problems and a lot of them were heaped on President Trump by the past 4 presidents.

It’s only the federal government’s Constitutional duty to guarantee the states against invasion.

This should have happened FOUR Presidents ago.

What a crock of doodoo... When are they going to actually live up to promises and send the military to the border to replace the few military police, tent builders, trench diggers, and supply clerks that were sent last year...

To date, not one single military thing of any significance has been committed to shutting down the unrestrained bush-obama migrant invasion by hundreds of thousands of wetbacks...

Foreigners invading the border 100K/month might call for a little military involvement...

and about 150 miles of that concertina are now on sale in various towns south of the border ... bargain galore, low millage, one owner, cheap

"and about 150 miles of that concertina are now on sale in various towns south of the border"

There was some minor pilferage in Tijuana, off of the top of the older barrier, which was shorter and more accessible, or which was emplaced on the ground for riot control against the caravans. It was basically just there as a temporary hardening of the old barrier, until the barrier was replaced.

Since that time, that old landing mat primary barrier has now been completely replaced with bollards (14 miles, from Otay Mountain to the Ocean). Concertina on the back side (American side) of bollards is inherently very difficult to pilfer, particularly behind the anti-climb plate at the top. The secondary barrier (behind the primary, when coming from Mexico) in San Diego/Tijuana is now also being replaced with mighty 30 foot bollards, which will be done around Christmas.

Landing mat with concertina

Bollards with concertina, 18 feet (two stories) in the air
