Alabama is doing the same thing. They just raised the gas tax for the first time in a couple of decades, but electric vehicle owners are going to be expected to pony up, too, since they use the same roads and would not be hit by the gas tax.

Honestly, it balances the playing field: it’s a user tax, so if you’re gonna do it at all, you need to hit all of the users as equally as possible.

It is a user tax and rightfully the road hog bicyclists will be next. We paid for all these great bike paths and I am stuck doing 8 mph up a hill because I must “share the road”. Well, it won’t be long and politicians will have them “share the load”. And hubby and I used to be avid bicyclists, but not on 50 mph roads. We used the paths.
