Didn’t use to be that way. When I was at Iowa in the 50’s, my shotgun was available to me any time I wanted it at the dorm front desk. I remember a visit to the Univ. Of New Mexico during my misspent college years where scoping sororities at night...through mounted scopes...was sort of a sport
Now there is a proper use of a scope if I have ever heard one!
