He's Clearly Not Losing Any Sleep Over This: AG Barr Jokes About Dem Contempt Threats
PJ Media ^ | 05/10/2019 | Matt Margolis

On Thursday, Attorney General William Barr cracked a joke about the Democrat-controlled House Judiciary Committee voting yesterday to hold him in contempt.

The attorney general made the comment during his remarks at a farewell ceremony for Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein at the Justice Department. Turning to his outgoing No. 2 official, Barr said, "You like records. This must be a record of attorney general being proposed for contempt within 100 days of taking office.”

The comment drew laughs from the audience.

Barr was joined by other top law enforcement officials in the Trump administration, including former Attorney General Jeff Sessions and current FBI Director Christopher Wray, all of whom offered warm words for Rosenstein.

As of right now, it is uncertain if the contempt vote will be sent to the House floor. The last attorney general who was found in contempt of Congress was Eric Holder for obstructing the investigation into the Fast and Furious investigation. But, Attorney General Barr clearly isn’t losing any sleep over House Democrats’ grandstanding, even though the fight isn’t over. Democrats are still hoping to keep the issue of the Mueller report alive, even though it’s basically a dead issue now… at least to American voters. Nothing Democrats have done in the past couple weeks seems to be affecting his poll numbers… well, at least not how they want them to.

Cheers to Attorney General Barr, who has been a primary target of the Democrats the past couple weeks, for having a sense of humor.

It’s just part of their ongoing coup attempt. Congress has no power over the executive branch.

Barr certainly was an excellent choice.

They have devalued “contempt of Congress” just like they devalued the Nobel Peace Prize.

Barr got a standing ovation from the Joint Chiefs of Staff yesterday.

Pelosi now has to decide if she wants to let the contempt vote go to the full House and risk it passing, then losing in the courts, increasing their chances of an electoral shellacking in 2020

I heard a threatening speech soundbite by Rep. Al Green that the long arm of the law was reaching toward Trump.

Maybe Barr should use lots of soothing skin lotion on his wrists to prepare for handcuffs placed by ferocious agents to pull him through the big doors into Congress to face Green and Nadler. Scary./s

Let’s not give the Subversives any head’s up about what is coming their way. Let them find out the hard way.

The Constitution doesn’t mention even once “congressional oversight of the executive branch.”

It’s not in there.

They do control the purse strings, and they could insist people come talk to them or no money, but that’s not this weird notion of committees and subpoenas.

People don’t understand that old smart guys with no political or employment ambitions are very dangerous to those who’s only weapon is political or financial coercion.

There is nothing more dangerous to the Deep State than a man that cannot be bought and knows his days on this planet are numbered anyway.

“Do not be afraid of those who kill the body but cannot kill the soul. Instead, fear the One who can destroy both soul and body in hell.”

RE: They have devalued “contempt of Congress” just like they devalued the Nobel Peace Prize.

Well, I have never understood what there is to fear when Congress cites you with contempt...

What of it?

Does anyone go to jail? Pay a fine?

What happened for instance to Eric Holder after he was cited for contempt? Nothing of course.

If nothing happens, then this is the equivalent of saying to someone : “You’ve been a bad boy/girl”. So?

The fix is in. It’s all just one big happy gang of insiders who have been covering stuff up together for decades. Sure, there will be a couple of tit-for-tat prosecutions to counter what the Trump team went through. But that is about all.

No, I’m talking about the rank and file citizens. Yes, the consternation would be that their leaders had finally been taken to task for what they have been up to.

LOL Does anyone know what Barr was actually reacting to here? I was only able to see clips of the various hearings.

From what I understand, Holder's contempt citation was settled a few months ago - two years into the next administration. It'll be a looonnnngg time going through the judicial machine.

Well, the Constitution gives Congress the power of impeachment and removal, and those can’t be exercised without the means to investigate and determine if an impeachable offense has been committed. So there is a clear implication that Congress does have some type of oversight power, at least as much as is necessary for them to exercise their clearly delineated impeachment powers.

Not quite. They can and do have investigatory power but definitely not oversight.
