Murphy deal to tie property tax relief to millionaires tax rejected

The other leader of the state Legislature has now rejected Gov. Phil Murphy’s proposal to pour another $250 million into property tax relief for New Jersey residents next year if lawmakers agree to his plan to raise taxes on millionaires.

That means Murphy and his fellow Democrats who lead the Legislature could be headed for another tense state budget battle in the coming weeks — and raises the possibility once again of a state government shutdown.

State Assembly Speaker Craig Coughlin, D-Middlesex, said in a statement obtained by NJ Advance Media on Wednesday night that “I do not share the governor’s view that middle-class property tax relief must be tied to another income tax hike, especially if there is, indeed, unanticipated revenue due to higher than expected tax receipts."

Murphy is so over the top that rational dem power brokers know he'd wreck the party for a generation if he did the things he's trying (think what Schwarzenegger did for Republicans in California by wrecking the state with lefty policies but telling them it was conservatism). That's fine for a billionaire Governor who is term limited but the guy who make their livings as parasites on the democrat body politic aren't excited about that.

Sure, they want higher taxes. But they like to do it gradually over time, boil the frog slowly so he doesn't notice. Muphy wants to toss the frog into a vat of acid. I Make no mistake though, it's a difference of approach, not goals.

Wealthy people and businesses are leaving the state in record numbers. I can’t tell you how many beautiful million dollar plus homes are sitting empty without buyers now. It is incredible.
